The 2024 Diamond State Black Film Festival returned to Wilmington, Delaware, showcasing powerful films and honoring Black filmmakers. The event featured screenings of groundbreaking work, including Farming While Black and Box Brown: A Box Marked Freedom, and concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing the best in Black cinema. Supported by local and state sponsors, the festival continues to grow as a cultural staple, amplifying Black voices and stories in the film industry.

On October 10, 2024, actress and author Keke Palmer captivated a sold-out audience at the Wilmington Public Library during her Master of Me book talk. In conversation with Dr. Chanda Reynolds, Palmer discussed her journey through motherhood, her iconic roles, and how she’s taken control of her own narrative. Fans will receive pre-signed copies of her book, Master of Me, when it releases on November 19, 2024, complete with a personal message of empowerment from Palmer herself.

HBCU Week 2024 brought a week-long celebration of culture, education, and community. It kicked off with a Prayer Brunch at The Queen, featuring an inspiring message from Rev. Dawn S. Christopher. The energy continued with a vibrant 5K at Rockford Park, followed by a Middle School College Tour at Delaware State University, offering young students a glimpse into higher education.
The “My HBCU Experience” panel discussions at Mount Pleasant and Middletown High Schools gave attendees personal insights into HBCU life, while the R&B concert at The Queen lit up the night. The HBCU College Fair at Chase Fieldhouse connected future scholars with admissions reps from over 25 HBCUs, and the Block Party in Downtown Wilmington brought fun, games, and food trucks.
The week wrapped up with a show-stopping Battle of the Bands at Frawley Stadium, showcasing the musical talents of Delaware State University, Lincoln University, and more. Since 2017, HBCU Week has made a huge impact, leading to over 6,000 on-the-spot college acceptances and awarding more than $60 million in scholarships.
