WILLMAR, MN (July 15, 2024) – Due to standing water, and soft ground, there will be no parking on Robbins Island tomorrow evening for the first Rockin’ Robbins concert on Tuesday, July 16. Only handicapped parking will be allowed.

Concertgoers are encouraged to take the free Park & Ride shuttles from four convenient locations: Willmar Middle School, Kennedy Elementary, Heritage Bank and the Willmar Community Center (across from Robbins Island). The shuttles will start early at 4 PM and run every 15 minutes until 9:30 PM.

Willmar Bikes also hosts a free “Bike Corral” for those who wish to bike to the island. Bikers receive a numbered bracelet, similar to a coat check, and the bikes are securely attended throughout the concert.

Also due to the soft ground, the entire stage, seating and vendor layout is changing for tomorrow night’s concert. Event and city planners worked hard all day on Monday to come up with a “Plan B” so the show could go on.

“It's going to be different, but it will be fun!” said Jesse Schweiss, President of the Willmar Rotary Club, who hosts the summer concert series.

Rockin' Robbins will feature 20 food vendors this year, and a “Happy Hour Special” with beverage discounts from 4:30 to 5:30 in the Bernick’s Island Tavern.

“The idea is to get people out there earlier to catch our amazing Opening Acts,” said Mike Gramm, Entertainment Coordinator for Rockin’ Robbins.

Tuesday’s band lineup includes Opening Act “Spooncat!” at 5 PM sponsored by Westberg Eischens.

Spooncat! was formed in 1996 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, the brainchild of brothers Jeremy, Jason, and Jonathon Hegg, and lifelong friend Christopher Smith. Widely acclaimed for their original horn-driven songs, the band has played throughout the Midwest, with performances stretching from Utah to Arkansas.

Taking the stage at 6:30 PM is Headliner “Martin Zellar and the Hardways” presented by Willmar Area Community Foundation

Martin Zellar first appeared on the Minneapolis music scene in the mid-80s as the lead singer of the Gear Daddies. Now touring with his band, The Hardways, Martin Zellar is a Minnesota music legend and described by critics as "one of this country’s finest songwriters.”
