CFEC prepares for possible impacts from Tropical Storm Fred

Central Florida Electric Cooperative will be closely monitoring Fred as it moves toward our service area over the weekend. Fred is expected to intensify again to a Tropical storm by Friday before bringing heavy rain and wind to our area by Saturday.

While the forecasted track of Fred is still uncertain, CFEC is already preparing for any impacts to our system to reduce the number and duration of power outages. Our crews will begin storm repair work as soon as it is safe to do so and restore any outages cause by Fred as quickly as possible.

We encourage our Members to prepare for the storm in advance by getting your disaster supply kit ready and preparing a safe place to shelter until the storm has passed.

As always, outages can be reported by phone at 352-493-2511, toll-free at 1-800-227-1302, or by using the CFEC Connect App or Member Portal at www.cfec.com.

Our mission is to be the finest example of an electric cooperative where excellent service, competitive rates and concern for the consumer, community and environment guide our every action.

Today, we make the tough announcement that Commissioner Mike Joyner has passed away.

Commissioner Joyner had accomplished a lot in his life. From his historic and celebrated career as a law enforcement officer, his hard work and dedication in farming, and his no-nonsense leadership and service representing residents of Levy County, one area that unfortunately not many people got to see in public was his unbelievable and steadfast commitment to keeping the residents and visitors of Levy County safe from disasters.

During the years, Levy County has seen its fair share of disaster, from localized flooding, to hurricanes, to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. During every single one of those events, Commissioner Joyner would work side by side with the men and women that were preparing for, responding to, and recovering from the disaster. Commissioner Joyner would, at the drop of a hat, offer his assistance with anything from answering phone calls from the public, to grabbing a chainsaw and cutting trees out of roadways. He did all of this with no expectation or want of recognition.
He was a man of the people and a defender and advocate to the employees of Levy County. His life as a dedicated professional in his service to the public is a shining example of what a true public servant is and what we all should strive to be.

He was taken from us too soon, but we must remember the lessons that we learned from him and continue his example of public service, pride in work, and dedication to our fellow human.
Even though he has left us, he will never be forgotten and his message of hard work and public dedication will be continued.
