Williston Sports & Events LiveStream along with Western Cooperative Credit Union would like to introduce to you 𝑴𝒔. 𝑬𝒍𝒍𝒂 𝑷𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏 as our next 𝑾.𝑪.𝑪.𝑼. 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒆𝒆𝒌!

Ms. Pederson in her fifth year of teaching at Lewis & Clark Elementary-Williston, ND. She started there as a student teacher and was “lucky enough to slide into an open position in the spring, so Lewis and Clark is my home, I’ve only taught there!” She taught second grade virtually for the spring semester and then for a full year, and now is in her third year teaching third grade.

Ella is a 2017 graduate of Williston High School, and played golf and tennis for the Coyotes. She graduated from Valley City State University in 2020, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten Endorsement. In continuing her education she received her Masters Degree in Learning & Technology from Western Governors University in 2022.

When asked about going into teaching Ella says “I love seeing kids grow and helping them learn, the class family bond we create every year and the relationships we build. I also love to do projects with my students where they get to take charge of their learning and showcase what they have learned. I think seeing them have that hands on experience is so cool!”

About coming home to Williston she adds: “I love teaching at my school. My coworkers are so easy to work with and make it fun. I know that we are all in it for the kids and they are always there to help me out and lend an ear to listen. They have taught me so much and are always there for support. We just all work together so well.”

“I am so grateful to all my mentors. They taught me so much and supported me and shared their knowledge and experiences with me. From student teaching with Kayla Weber and Kristi Hildebrandt, to doing virtual learning with Tara Christofferson and Beth Hokanson, as a first year teacher learning from and teaching second grade with Sarah Boston and Hannah McKenzie to now teaching third grade with Melissa Heller. All of these people are so important to me and have guided me through my first years of teaching. They made a huge impact on the teacher I am today. So I especially want to say a huge thank you to them.”

Lewis & Clark Elementary Principal Meredith Johnson states “I am proud to recognize Ella Pederson, third-grade teacher, as our Teacher of the Week! She creates a caring and engaging classroom, provides students with rich learning experiences and builds strong relationships with both students and parents. Her creative art projects bring lessons to life, and her multiple years of perfect attendance show her deep commitment to always being there for her students. Thank you, Ms. Pederson, for your dedication to Lewis & Clark Elementary!”

In her free time Ms. Pederson likes to read, spending time with her family and friends, snuggling with her dogs and baking.

Ella’s parents are Brad Pederson and Kim Pederson of Williston. “They are so supportive of me. My mom will even help me cut my lamination and go in on weekends with me to help in the classroom.”

In closing Ella adds “I have had so many amazing teachers in my life that inspired me and made me want to become a teacher, so big thank you to all the awesome teachers out there. You make a difference!”

We caught up with Ms. Pederson this week and presented her with the 𝑾.𝑪.𝑪.𝑼. 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒆𝒆𝒌 award. Thank you 𝑾𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑪𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒕 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒐𝒏 for sponsoring the Teacher of the Week, Ink Spot Printing & SignWorks for the awards and Shirtworx, for the awesome shirts!

Dickinson HS Girls Hockey pick up a road win tonight 4-1 vs Williston, keeping their State Playoff hopes alive. Junior #16 𝑲𝒚𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑷𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏 picked 2 goals (her team leading 12th & 13th goals of the year and team high 25th points). 𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒚𝒐𝒕𝒆 𝑩𝒐𝒚𝒔 𝑯𝒐𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒚 pick up a 7-0 win at home to advance to WDA Tournament as the #7 seed.

Senior Goaltender Bode Ekblad stopped all 17 shots faced to record his 2nd consecutive shutout in net.

Senior Matthew Schmit had a 2 goals and an assist to lead the Coyotes.

The Boys face #2 Century on Thursday in the first round of the WDA tournament.

Williston Sports & Events LiveStream along with Chamley Pipe & Salvage would like to introduce to you 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒘 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒎𝒊𝒕 as our next 𝑺𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝑨𝒕𝒉𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒆𝒆𝒌!

Matthew is a Senior at Williston High School and a 2x Captain on the Coyote Boys Hockey Team. This is his 4th season of Varsity Hockey for WHS, and will be a 4x Letterman in the sport once the season ends. The 2x Captain (Junior & Senior year) for the Coyotes is in his 13th year playing hockey. While he is known for playing a forward, Matt can play any position on the ice, and even played goalie when he was younger.

Matthew started playing football when he was 8 years old. Over the years he played Guard, Tackle, Defensive Line and Linebacker. As a 3 year Varsity Letter award recipient for the Coyotes, he was also a 2𝒙 𝑨𝒍𝒍-𝑾𝑫𝑨 (all conference) selection. Matt was named 2023 𝘿𝙚𝙛𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙈𝙑𝙋 and the 2024 𝙏𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙈𝙑𝙋 for the Coyote Foorball team.

Matt has been the recipient of our 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒂𝒎𝒆 award on 2 occasions, and was one of the first to receive it for 2 different sports.

Matthew plans on finishing out his Senior year playing golf for the Coyotes this spring. It will be his 2nd year competing in golf. He also played baseball for 8 years.

Schmitty would like to give a shout out to “My family and Taylor Washburn for always supporting me and coming to all my games.”

Outside of sports he enjoys fishing, hunting and golf…he adds “Follow me on Instagram at 𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒚_𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒅𝒐𝒐𝒓𝒔!”

After graduation from WHS this spring Matthew will be attending North Dakota State College of Science and take part in their plumbing program.

Matthew’s parents are Aaron and Kristal Schmit, he has 4 sisters: Sydney, Kennon, Ellie and Anna, 2 brothers-in-law (Nick and Ben) and 3 nephews, River, Rocky and Noah.

Good luck Matthew the rest of this season and in the spring with Golf. We will miss seeing you on the field and on the ice. Way to always represent the Coyotes!

𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒚𝒐𝒕𝒆 𝑩𝒐𝒚𝒔 𝑺𝒘𝒊𝒎 & 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎 competed in Mandan over the weekend. They faced Mandan Friday in a dual, then competed Saturday at the Mandan invite against 4 other teams. Coyotes competed well over the weekend, and will have 1 more meet at Minot on Thursday, Feb 20th, before WDA (Bismarck March 1st) and State (West Fargo March 7th & 8th).
