Crestwood, Wilkes-Barre Area go to overtime in thrilling Wolfpack football debut
The Crestwood Comets and Wilkes-Barre Area Wolfpack matched one another score-for-score in the first half of Friday night's season opener. Each team had chances to win the game in the second half, but couldn't score. Finally, Crestwood won the game, 28-27, in overtime, as officials ruled the Wolfpack was stopped short on a 2-point conversion for the win. Highlights include Corey Brown's sack that led to Aiden Redding's touchdown for the first Wolfpack touchdown, a Rafael McCoy interception for Wilkes-Barre Area, the Wolfpack's second-half goal-line stand, as well as Crestwood touchdowns by Ryan Petrosky, Brandon Niemenski and Ryan Miller. Alexa McHugh throws a no-hitter, Pittston Area softball advances in PIAA playoffs
Senior Alexa McHugh threw a no-hitter in Pittston Area's 4-0 win Monday against Upper Perkiomen in the first round of the PIAA Class 5A softball playoffs. McHugh was a walk away from a perfect game. While Pittston Area's offense provided McHugh with support (RBI hits by Tori Para, Morgan Mesaris, Shayla Williams, Bernadette Lieback), so did the defense, including third baseman Madisyn Antal's highlight-reel catch in the seventh inning. Pittston Area will play again Thursday in the state quarterfinals against West Chester East.

Over the weekend, Nanticoke Area's boys basketball team won a last-second thriller at King's College with a state playoff spot and district championship appearance on the line. Nate Kreitzer passed to Colby Butczynski, who made the game-winning 3-pointer that sent the Trojans into Saturday's title game at Mohegan Sun Arena.
