The great Harvard literary professor George Lyman Kittredge's definitive grammar text The Mother Tongue (originally published over 100 years ago) is available from Blue Sky Daisies in an updated format that makes it easy to read and easy to adapt to your educational needs. It also gives you an excellent reference book to answer all your grammar and syntax questions. Get it in paperback or as a PDF printable download. We also offer the exercises as student workbooks, with separate answer keys available.

Kittredge and his co-writer Sarah Arnold provide grammar practice exercises that utilize actual literary sentences from Shakespeare, Washington Irving, William Makepeace Thackeray, and many others (although the writers don't indicate the sources). St. Nicholas Day is December 6--that's this Friday! We've enjoyed marking this day with bags of chocolate coins for the kids (you can find them in the seasonal candy aisle at most grocery stores) and stories about St. Nicholas. Molded cookies are another favorite tradition. You still have time to purchase the chocolate coins, get your cookie ingredients, and prepare the kids to put their shoes out for Friday!
