Here we go again… someone creating another fake profile pretending to be me. I’ll never “ask” for a friend request.
Tonight at 6, on FOX4, my one-on-one with Jean Peters Baker, Jackson County’s Prosecutor. She took to her blog recently to set the record straight and debunk what she calls the myth that “the prosecutor won’t prosecute”. She says she has a high file rate, of cases brought to her office.
According to a chart represented in the blog, out of nearly 9,000 larceny/theft offenses reported this year, only 52 total cases were presented to her office.
“Any public servant that is carrying that message needs to stop it,” she stated. “The notion that we won’t prosecute. The facts bare it out that we will. We do and we will.”
Johnson Co. District Attorney, Steve Howe, told me today it’s concerning that someone who just recently paroled had the weaponry he had.
“We will work with the Overland Park Police, as well as the federal authorities, to figure out how it is that he came upon, in a short period of time, pretty-high fire power. An assault rifle, as well as an automatic pistol. You wouldn’t think somebody four days after their release would have that type of fire power.”
Wilkins being held on a $5 million bond. He’s set to appear again in court next week.
The suspect in an Overland Park armed robbery had been out of prison for only four days before getting arrested again. https://trib.al/FEajmTz

Monday, Corey Laykovich, the namesake of Corey's Network, Inc., would have turned 34. He was a victim of homicide in 2013. His mother, co-founder of Corey's Network, advocates for the families of KC metro homicides. The group has now assisted those families with over $100,000 in assistance and helped pay for 425 funerals since its inception.

Also, in this story I met with Jackie Mitts, Alexuas Acord's mom. She's shouting from the rooftops. After all, she has a sign stating just that on her own roof. Her daughter's 2020 unsolved homicide is still being worked by Grandview, MO Police Department.

I was told it wouldn't be my last day at KAKE News, without... cake. ❤
How incredible is this goodbye gift from Social Detective Podcast??? Thank you for your kind words and for this stunning cake by Wow Cakes.
Welp, I thought I was done anchoring. But I’m happy to be back at it holding down the fort starting at 4:30 a.m.
Join Frank Waugh, CBM KAKE and I this morning until 7. He’s tracking severe weather for us. ⚡️
The heavy eyeliner and platinum hair caught my attention first, then Brittany’s voice, and then families of unsolved crime… that combo left my heart absolutely in a puddle. ❤️
It's not goodbye from me... just yet, but here's a peek at who is taking over weekend mornings for a while.
This morning, I was the light just adjacent to Wichita Fire Department’s Fire Station 5, Ty Voth’s station and looked over.
I took the moment in after seeing a fire truck with its doors open, and a set of gear on the ground ready to be put on.
Voth’s services are this morning. He’s described as a firefighter’s… firefighter.
Thousands are expected to pour in this morning at Park City Area to honor him.
I decided to check out new coffee shop Greater Grounds Coffee & Co while I sifted and responded to the many comments of my last post. Thank you for all for the love! I still have another week here, including this weekend anchoring. See you then.
Greater Grounds Coffee & Co has such charm! It's located at 922 E Douglas.
KAKEland, it’s not you… it’s me. August 14th will be my last day.
Kansas was never a place on this North Carolinian’s list to live, let alone extend my stay, but I have and I've loved it. These last three years have been a highlight of my career. I’m honored by my time in the Sunflower State and I hope you know that. I never expected the magnitude of stories I was privileged enough to tell here, but with your trust (and with my manager’s approval) I have. I hope to never forget them.
You love your clouds and your communities and I’m humbled to have shared hundreds of views and stories with you. From the anchor desk, general assignment reports, to cold cases and unsolved crime and the Hometown Hero franchise, what a ride it’s been.
Many of you don’t know that I’m married to a professional baseball player and with that, means solo-parenting for half the year. Me (and myself alone) have made the extremely hard choice to leave and to be closer to family, support, and a better schedule. I'm grateful for the opportunities presented for me to stay, but it’s time to make my life a little easier.
I can only speak from my own experience when I say this, but I wouldn’t be the journalist I am, if it weren’t for my News Director, and KAKE, allowing us journalists the time and resources stories need and deserve to be shared with you all. I’m honored by the relationships I’ve built with investigators, community members, coworkers, viewers and the many people who’ve let me interview them for my stories at KAKE.
I hope I’ve left KAKEland a little better than I found it… I know I'm better because of it.
There are so many more stories up ahead for me to share and I’m excited to keep telling them. I’m not going far. Stay tuned.

NEW this morning, we received body cam video of the rescue of baby Bentley. Sunday, the Moundridge Police Department, along with Moundridge Fire and EMS responded to a call of a toddler trapped inside a PVC pipe. Thankfully, the baby was unharmed, but what a scary situation for the boy, his family and first responders.
You'll see in this video the rescue and what they used to pull the toddler out of the pipe and back in mom and dad's arms.
Hi all,
I just got this message from a viewer. Please know this is a page and cannot accept 'friend requests', so whoever is sending out friend requests from a "Hannah king KAKE account" (notice the small 'k') is NOT me.
This gets old. Please report. 😠
The submarine service memorial at the Wichita Veterans Memorial Park has had people recently carve their names (and looks like the name of their bf/gf) along with a few choice words on the torpedo part of the memorial. While out on a 'Hometown Hero' shoot, a veteran made me aware of the vandalism at the memorial and the campaign behind the Wichita Police and Fire Foundation to install three security cameras.
It's going to cost about 40K though. The hope is new cameras will curb the crime. If you look close enough you can see US Navy veteran, Bob Fugit, in the photo. He's not happy. The USS Dorado Memorial is intended to remember the many men who lost their lives while aboard a submarine in the US Navy. Fugit doesn’t understand why anyone would want to dishonor their memory.
He also told me the 1.5 ton torpedo is on loan to the park and is actually government property.
The story and ways you can help the fundraising efforts:

Per ABC News: Donald Trump was rushed off stage during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday after an assassination attempt on the former president. Secret Service agents swarmed Trump and ducked behind the podium. Blood could be seen on his right ear of Trump as agents surrounded him and led him off the stage to a waiting vehicle to whisk him away. Trump is "fine," a spokesperson said. The alleged shooter is dead. One spectator is dead, while two are in serious condition, according to officials. It's been a minute since I went on a road trip solo to shoot a story. While, yes, the rink was empty, don't take that as a bad thing. This was on a day the rink was closed. It's been in the same family for 50+ years, but the owner tells me it's time for a new family to make it theirs. ICYMI: The Wichita Police Department has renewed their efforts in finding answers for cold cases, starting with a dedicated and organized space to house all the old case files to be more easily accessible. "The Wichita Police Department is committed to the continued investigation of unsolved homicides and missing person cases. The Cold Case Unit is compiled of over 200 open and unsolved homicides since the mid-1970s. These cases will not be forgotten and the ultimate goal is to successfully close these cases with new information, updated testing, or witness cooperation that could lead to prosecution." A few of the cases I've featured can be found below: https://www.kake.com/story/50655991/cold-case-unit-200-wichita-cases-remain-unsolved-but-not-forgotten If you have any tips on any unsolved Wichita case, you are encouraged to contact the team. COLD CASE ROOM: "We created this for the victims and their families, but I also want the people who committed these crimes to know that Wichita hasn’t forgotten about these cases. We are looking at them. They might have thought 10, 20, 30 years ago that nobody’s knocking on their door… (that) no one is looking into the cases... but we are now." Tonight on KAKE News at 10, how the Wichita Police Department isn't forgetting the 200+ unsolved cases WPD continues to work and how important it is that these files are all in one location, so they can be pulled when information and tips are received.
