The Whitewright Community BBQ is today! It will be held in the fellowship hall at the First United Methodist Church of Whitewright (301 W. Maple). Doors open at 11am and lunch will be served at 1pm. Use extra caution in Whitewright this morning when traveling through downtown or to the post office. TxDOT has crews repairing concrete at the corner of N Bond (FM 898) at Walnut. One block of Walnut (the road in front of the post office) is closed- and between Grand and Walnut the road is one lane. Be safe, drive with caution, and watch for construction workers.

US 69, from SH 56 in Bells to FM 151 in Whitewright. Watch for daytime lane closures as crews perform base repairs in the travel lanes. Motorists should expect delays as flaggers and pilot cars direct traffic through the work zone.

Candidate Question Submissions!!

The Whitewright Sun will be distributing candidate questions for the upcoming May 4th 2024 Local Election. The responses received from the candidates will be printed in upcoming April issues. The public is invited to submit question suggestions. Several questions will be chosen and provided to the candidates and their participation is voluntary.
Questions for Whitewright ISD Board of Trustee candidates, City of Bells council member candidates, City of Tom Bean mayor and council candidates will be distributed and collected by The Whitewright Sun publisher. For these races, please send your suggested questions to [email protected].
In order to maintain fairness and impartially and since the publisher of the newspaper is also running for mayor, the questions and responses for the City of Whitewright mayor and council member candidates will be handled this year by Betsy Blevins, Publisher and Editor of the Leonard Graphic. Please send your suggested questions to: [email protected] with “Whitewright Question” in the subject line. We appreciate Mrs. Blevins agreeing to assist with candidate questions this year. She will be the one sending out the questions and compiling the responses and inserting them into the page layout when it is time to print them.
Please note, suggested candidate questions must be submitted for consideration no later than Monday, March 18th at noon. This information will also be printed in the 3/14 issue.

Early voting at the Bells City Hall will continue this week, Monday-Friday, through March 1st from 7am - 7pm.
Super Tuesday, March 5th will be Election Day and the last day for voting in the Joint Primary Election. Local voters can cast their ballot at the Whitewright Church of Christ from 7 am to 7 pm.
Please note, voters in Grayson County can vote at any polling location. For a complete list of locations, visit www.co.grayson.tx.us/page/elec.home.
