Conrad Press World's Finest Printmaking Presses since 1956! www.conradmachine.com Dear Printmaker,

Welcome to the official Conrad Machine Fan Page. Conrad Machine Co.

This year is a historic year in Conrad Machine's history; it marks our 66-year anniversary. was founded by my father and uncle, Earl and Robert Conrad, in 1945 with assistance from my grandfather, Hveding Conrad. Fresh out of WWII, my father and uncle started the company with little more than ideals and the American dream. In 1956, we began manufacturing our first printmaking presses. Today, we ar

e recognized around the world as one of the oldest manufacturers of fine art printmaking presses as well as the oldest manufacturer in North America. is proud to manufacture 6 different lines of presses. We do not, by and large, sell peripheral materials like other companies. Instead, we concentrate our time, energy, and engineering abilities on manufacturing the world's finest printmaking presses. We offer more lines of presses than any other press company. Our selection allows you to pick the press that best fits your wants, needs, and price range. The Conrad Machine Co. line of presses includes tabletop and floor model etching, combination, monotype, and lithography presses. These presses have proven to be popular in both the studio and educational settings. In addition to our Conrad Machine Co. press line, we have added the world-renowned American French Tool press line in 1999. Andre Beaudoin, American French Tool's founder, designed and built these elegant and graceful etching presses for nearly 30 years in Coventry, Rhode Island. Their agile design and stunning performance are unsurpassed in the printmaking industry. Recently, in 2007, we added the complete line of Rembrandt fine art presses. This line, designed by John Graves, has proven itself over the past 35 years, with its efficient and well-built design, to be very popular among printmakers. Our newest line of presses is the Brand New line. This line is designed after the Charles Brand style of presses. If you loved Charles Brand presses, you will love the Brand New line. Conrad Machine Warranty Logo Conrad Machine Co. is not only celebrating our 66-year anniversary, we are also celebrating more than 50 years of building the finest printmaking presses in the world. Because of our level of commitment to higher quality and better performance, we have decided to increase our press warranty. All Conrad Machine Co. manufactured presses now carry a 25-year warranty. Our next stop was to visit and save what we could of these floor model presses from the scrap yard: an American French Tool and Conrad Floor Model. These were unfortunately stored by a school inside a leaking shipping container outdoors for over five years.

We will be performing a complete restoration and overhaul of each machine to make them look and function just like new.

If you have any desire to give these presses the life they deserve, please send us a DM.

The last stop on our West Coast servicing tour was to visit our longtime friend Eric Rewitzer at his gorgeous studio 3 Fish Studios in Northern California.

As a printmaker, Eric specializes in linoleum block and woodblock printmaking, particularly on a large scale where he produces one of a kind, iconic California-inspired artwork.

In addition to the smaller Conrad E-15 and E-18 presses at the studio, he prints all of his large-scale work on the largest production monotype press we make: the massive Conrad Monotype 48. With a gigantic 48”x72” press bed, this press is truly fitting for one of his favorite themed characters: Godzilla.

Here we are with him flipping the bedplate on this giant machine after giving the press a full tuneup at his studio as well as a few studio shots with one of his recent Godzilla prints.

The second stop on our West Coast servicing tour was Cuesta College to service their full studio of presses.

Unfortunately, they had a roof leak that leaked water all over their large Conrad Press during school break, which caused some rust to develop. We were able to remove all of rust and get the press looking like new!

While we were at the studio, we also replaced the bedplate on their small 16x30 Charles Brand Press and gave the press a makeover.

Then, we flipped the bedplate on their small Griffin press to keep it in spec for printing.

Excellent studio and a beautiful campus! So happy to have visited!!

I’m so happy with how this custom marine blue Conrad E-18 turned out—and what a beautiful studio it now gets to call home!

We worked with the artist personally to handpick this color for her press and included all the options she was looking for to make a truly one of a kind etching press.

In this case, a Conrad E-18 with micrometer gauges, aluminum bedplate, chrome roller, registration grid, stand/caster combo, and an open spoke starwheel for the smoothest printing possible.

What color is your dream press?

A great visit from fellow Michigander Ben Bohnsack, picking up his new Conrad E-15 Deluxe Etching Press with micrometer gauges, registration grid, and protective bed cover.

Ben Bohnsack has been hand printing woodcuts for 12 years and finally took the plunge into the world of presses. Being an etching press, the E-15 works for any type of heavy-pressure intaglio work, but it also allows for relief and woodblock printing.

It was great visiting with a fellow Midwestern artist who was also kind enough to give us a beautiful reduction woodblock print.

Happy printing!

One of our recent Charles Brand restorations. This time on a smaller 16 x 30 Brand.

For this project, we performed a complete disassembly of the machine, piece by piece, sandblasted and repainted all of the parts.

The bedplate was warped, so we straightened it back to factory spec. The upper roller had a bent shaft with cracked weld from years of use. We straightened the roller shaft, re-welded in place, and re-turned both the upper and lower rolls to ensure straight and smooth operation.

As with any used press we work on, we checked every bearing on the press to make sure it turned freely with no drag or west spots—replaced if necessary—then re-lubed and re-greased them.

Last but not least, we fitted the press with a registration grid and lexan bed cover.

The press looks great now! Ready for its new home!

Earlier this year, we had the privileged to visit our long-time friend Dan Welden at his home studio in Long Island.

This was out first time seeing his custom made Conrad American French Tool, named Albrecht, since we built the press in 2019.

It was great visiting with Dan and pulling some a few prints on the 48'' x 99'' press bed!

Beautiful area and beautiful press!

This last weekend, we had the privilege to meet up with Lyell Castonguay before one of his BIG INK workshops in Detroit.

We haven’t seen the Big Tuna in person since we built this massive Conrad 48 inch wide Monotype press back in 2016.

Awesome to see Lyell and the press still going strong after almost 10 years traveling the country nonstop from state to state, workshop to workshop.

Hope to see you in Michigan again soon!

First time printmaker!

It was a privilege helping James pull his very first woodcut print at the SGCI show this month! It’s so fun introducing new people to the printmaking process and getting them to experience it first hand.

Here’s to many more prints!
