Your Personal Art Consultant

Your Personal Art Consultant I am here to help artists connect with buyers, galleries, and arts organizations. My name is Stephanie A.B.

Wiedenhoeft and I want to be Your PERSONAL Art Consultant. Together you and I will find that perfect piece of art. My services will help you find the artist and body of work that will best suit Your PERSONAL aesthetic. I am here to untangle the art avenues and draw a direct path from artist to buyer. No hype, no inventory being pushed, no commercial influence. With my guidance you will learn just

how enjoyable and rewarding buying a fine piece of art can be. Unfortunately for me, you may become so confident that you will decide to grow your collection without my help. This will mean I have succeeded in bridging the gap between artist and customer.

On the fairā€™s 30th anniversary, a question hangs in the air: Has this genre been absorbed by the mainstream? What is ā€˜outsiderā€™ when its greatest talents are in the canon?

Is nakedness invisibilityā€™s opposite? Maybe not, but, if itā€™s unapologetically displayed, it can be a kind of antidote to erasure.

Pam Shields (American, born 1967)
STILL Standing-STILL Here, 2017
charcoal on paper
59 x 45 inches

About this piece, the artist states:
ā€œSTILL Standing ā€“ STILL Here speaks to the invisibility of women as they age. It is a self-portrait showing folds of skin and sagging breasts. While I am no longer ā€œyoungā€, I am still here on this planet and I still have things to say. We are losing the very rights we fought so hard to win decades ago. The war on women is STILL alive and well. The struggle for womenā€™s rights must continue. My drawing strikes a pose of defiance. We must never give up. We must continue to speak out for future generations.ā€

Pam Shields is a figurative artist whose work explores the female body as it actually is, rather than the idealized version perpetuated by culture. She works in charcoal and pen and ink. Her work is based on stop motion photos of herself and on selfies taken by other women. In her One Body series she examined the taboo of female ma********on and in her Project S series, she asked anonymous women in her small town to submit selfies of their own vulvas. Shields then made large charcoal drawings based on these selfies.
Pam Shields has had solo shows at Ceres Gallery in NYC and various galleries in Pennsylvania. She has participated in exhibitions at A.I.R. and Pen & Ink in NYC and with EmPoderArte in Madrid, Spain. Her studio is located in Reading, PA.

The Moon Spirts are just popping by to say hello. We hope youā€™ve had a wonderful weekend so far šŸ˜Š Iā€™ve spent the last couple of days recovering from a virus (which has been so awful) so Iā€™m feeling completely out of the swing of things.

Whilst Iā€™ve been away from my desk, (recovering in bed šŸ¤’) my mind has been busy pondering over business ideas. A lot of you will know that Iā€™ve been contemplating the idea of creating some ā€˜make it yourselfā€™ kits, as well as developing downloadable sculpture patterns. But now, Iā€™m looking into how I can teach. I LOVE creating textile sculptures and Iā€™m really excited about being able to pass on the things Iā€™ve learnt as a completely self taught textiles artist. I literally didnā€™t know how to use my sewing machine 2 years ago, and everything Iā€™ve learnt, I taught myself via the internet and through trial and error. When youā€™re diving into a new craft, I know how overwhelming it can be, and Iā€™d love to share the steps I took from being a complete beginner, with no prior knowledge, to where I am now.

Iā€™m just in the research stage at the moment, so I have two questions for you, 1) how many of you know how to sew? Are you a beginner? Dabbled in sewing a few times before? A complete pro? Or maybe youā€™ve never sewn before but youā€™re totally keen to learn! And 2) what specific things would you like to learn from me? How I got started? How to create 3D patterns? How to sew? Let me know in the comments below! šŸ’š
