Let's talk about Memorial Day.

As we enjoy this weekend with our friends, family, and strangers that work their way into our lives, let's take a minute to think and understand before we "celebrate" this day.
Today is not a typical celebration like the Fourth of July or any other celebratory holiday. The purpose of this day was created as a way to remember all of the men and women who signed a blank check with their lives to keep us safe and free. This day is not a day to honor veterans or currently serving military members, but to remember the ones that had the blank check cashed in and as payment gave up their life for you and I, our families, our friends, and our nation. They made the ultimate sacrifice so we can live freely.

This is a concept that is hard to grasp for many Americans as they do not come from a military family or do not understand the differences between Armed Forces Day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day. If you want to understand the true meaning behind why we celebrate this day, look up a military member from your local community that died in the line of duty, find their grave and lay some flowers, and say thank you.

Their sacrifice is the reason you are able to enjoy the freedoms and the rights that you have today, and far too many of us take that for granted.

Honor Memorial Day.

It is such a humbling sight to see that a simple photograph I took last year has helped bring our community together, helped us tighten the bonds of our small town and help us become a healthier community in general.
I just love the fact that our town host events like this and trys to get the entire community envolved.
