OutWrite Newsmagazine

OutWrite Newsmagazine Established in 1979, OutWrite is the q***r newsmagazine at the University of California, Los Angeles.

OutWrite Newsmagazine strives to build a growing educational platform through a multi-media approach that uplifts and empowers the often silenced voices of the incredibly diverse q***r community. We aim to challenge dominant cisheteronormative narratives through an unapologetically anti-q***rphobic, anti-racist, and progressive lens.

For Labor Day 2024, let's explore homophobia and transphobia in the workplace. Although it's illegal in the U.S. to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, over half of trans people and over a third of all LGBTQ+ people experience workplace discrimination for being q***r. This Labor Day, speak out about your experiences with q***rness in the workplace!

Learn about SB 1491, a pending state bill to require public colleges to designate a confidential point of contact for the LGBTQ+ community. While UCs and CSUs already designate resources for the q***r community (like the UCLA LGBTQ Campus Resource Center), nearly two million community college students would benefit.

Introducing HAUNTOLOGY, our fall print coming this weekend! 👻🌈

Hauntology, coined by French philosopher Jacques Derrida in 1993, refers to the persistence (or haunting) of a social or cultural past. In this print we visit the lost pasts and potential lost futures that haunt us. We are so excited to bring you this beautiful magazine as our first print this year. Welcome to our haunt! 🏚️

Stay tuned for news on its release, merch, our launch event, and where to pick up a copy!
