You can never have too many microphones
You can never have too many microphones. Just as a woodworker can never have enough clamps, a recording engineer can never have enough microphones. Each microphone is unique, each captures sound a bit differently. Find the right mic for you and the hard part is done.
In this video, Josh notices an image of Dan's active working microphone, the ElectroVoice MC200. This starts Dan on a brief rant about some of his mic collection and why he's opted to use the MC200 as his primary go-to.

Show Me Your Setup is a series like no other, one that ages like a fine wine, has a decent amount of humor, and is easy to enjoy.
If you want to sound clear in your podcast, selecting the proper space for recording is going to be your first hurdle. This audiogram details a number of considerations that apply when thinking about where you should set up your gear. A smallish room with a door and no windows is ideal. Some closets fit the bill, but many are too small and confining. Bedrooms often have soft furnishings that absorb reflected sounds wonderfully, and should not be overlooked as an option. Most bathrooms are terrible acoustic spaces that echo and reverb too much. Basements, while isolated from outside noises, often contain appliances that make constant, or erratic, noises. Part of studio preparation is picking the room. The next phase is treating the space once you've settled in.
