Wolf Pack Chorus announced today that it will close its doors in the "early days of February."

Stationed in the former Club Isabella, the restaurant from Chris and Katie Wolf brought a refreshing and sunny, well-adorned eatery to Little Italy in March 2023. The menu was American with French influence. Offering dishes such as Nashville-style duck confit and Chicken Francaise. Yet, like many recently, the restaurant couldn't make it out of the hospitality industry's slowest and toughest days of the year.

"I'm not sure how to start this. I feel there have been too many of these announcements over the last few months," the restaurant writes. "And yet, here we are. Service has been a fierce passion of mine, for as long as I can remember." Read more: https://clevelandmagazine.com/food-drink/articles/wolf-pack-chorus-in-little-italy-is-closing-in-early-february

Matthew Stipe has announced that he is closing Banter in Detroit Shoreway. He opened the original poutine, sausage and bottle shop down the road in 2014 and closed it in late 2020, vowing to return. He did just that in late 2023 after considerable delay and into a very different business climate.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we have to announce the closure of Gordon Square," he writes. "The restaurant business is fickle and this year has been one of the hardest across the board for our industry. It's easy to point at this or blame that but there is time for self-reflection later."

Banter Gordon Square will remain open until Feb. 2. Banter Van Aken District will continue business as usual. 🔗 Read our 2024 preview of Banter Gordon Square: https://clevelandmagazine.com/food-drink/articles/banter-makes-impressive-return-to-gordon-square-first-look

The grand-opening for the new Sherwin-Williams headquarters tower is set for March, despite repairs pushing occupancy of the tower to later this fall.

The ceremony will be held on March 12 in a large, frame-reinforced tent set up on the north lawn of Public Square in Downtown Cleveland, according to AAble Rents of Euclid, an event rental service.

Construction work on the tower, starting with site preparation, began months before the groundbreaking ceremony. Back then, Sherwin-Williams and its development team said it hoped to complete the building by the end of 2024.

But nearly a year ago, that began to appear unlikely. And now it appears that occupancy of the tower won’t happen until months after the grand-opening ceremony, either. 🔗 Read more: https://clevelandmagazine.com/in-the-cle/development/articles/sherwin-williams-hq-repairs-delay-occupancy-beyond-march-opening-sources-say

Faucet and fixture maker Moen is relocating is corporate headquarters from the western Cleveland suburb of North Olmsted to the northern Chicago suburb of Deerfield, Illinois, by the summer of 2026.

It is not known how many of Moen’s 600-plus HQ employees are making the move but it appears that a significant number of them will. Employees were informed of the move yesterday. They were reportedly offered a 15% raise and up to $10,000 for moving expenses if they moved to Chicago where costs of living are 26% higher.

The effects of climate change are here, yet one region of the country seemingly safe from its worst effects — at least so far — is the Great Lakes.

In March of 2023, we published a story about the possibility that Cleveland could be a safe haven if climate change continues to become a bigger and bigger issue, forcing Americans to move around looking for cooler places and fresh water.

With the Great Lakes region safe from much of the extreme weather the rest of the country is facing, local leaders are betting the city's future on welcoming those displaced from climate change. But Northeast Ohio still has a long way to go to be the refuge we hope it can be. 🔗 Read more at the link about Cleveland being a safe haven: https://clevelandmagazine.com/in-the-cle/news/articles/is-cleveland-the-climate-safe-haven-we-think-it-is

After launching his YouTube channel in 2019, Charlie Anderson amassed 180,000 subscribers who come back time and time again for his no-nonsense at-home pizza-making instruction. Now Anderson has a physical space where people can watch him make New York-style pizza IRL and enjoy the spoils.

This past fall, Anderson announced that he was taking over the former Citizen Pie Roman Café space on East 4th St., which closed in 2024 after four years. Today, he will open Good Pizza, a streamlined slice shop in Downtown Cleveland.

"Our goal is to bring extremely high-quality pizza by the slice to Downtown. I want to change the way people think about pizza. A lot of people think it's greasy, heavy junk food. Our pizza is a lot different from that," Anderson says. 🔗 Read more about the new pizza spot: https://clevelandmagazine.com/food-drink/articles/good-pizza-youtuber-charlie-andersons-east-fourth-pizzeria-is-now-open-first-look

Tom McIntyre, the owner of the West Side Market fish stall Kate's Fish, is expanding the casual fish stop into a seafood bar in Tremont with the goal to "change the way people think about seafood in this town."

McIntyre took ownership of Kate's Fish, which was founded by his mother in 2001, in 2020 and has had his eye on expansion not only in the market but beyond. Outside of the market, he’s hosted seafood pop-ups with local chefs and explored restaurant opportunities as well.

“The concept is a blue-collar seafood bar: great seafood, great bar, no frills,” he says. 🔗 Read more about the anticipated expansion: https://clevelandmagazine.com/food-drink/articles/kate's-fish-owner-tom-mcintyre-is-opening-seafood-bar-in-tremont

Doc's On Harvard Restaurant & Lounge, an upscale restaurant which opened last spring, offers some of the only sit-down dining available in Cleveland's Lee-Harvard neighborhood.

🦷 The former dental office transformed into the eatery with the help of citywide initiatives to invest in the Southeast Side of Cleveland, including Mayor Justin M. Bibb's Southeast Side Promise and the city’s Middle Neighborhoods Initiative.

“We know that one restaurant, one art gallery, one amazing small business, could change the trajectory of a community,” Bibb says. “Think about what chef Michael Symon did for Tremont, and his first restaurant was an anchor that really helped propel Tremont revitalization. The same can be true for the Southeast Side.”

🍽️ Behind the entire concept was one family's dream, which pushed the business across the finish line despite numerous challenges.

“We are putting in all of our efforts and our passion and our hearts to bring something beautiful to the neighborhood, because Lee-Harvard really will not look like this in two to three years,” chef Kolnita Riggins-Walker says. “I think we’re on the precipice of something great.”

The rest of us might scramble indoors, but a little cold never stops the U.S. Coast Guard. On Dec. 26, 1944, snow settled across Cleveland. By the next morning, temperatures had dropped to 6 below zero, freezing the city into an icy expanse. Cars slipped and slogged. With tows scarce, abandoned vehicles dotted city streets. The Nickel Plate train plodded in late. The Cleveland Transit System’s buses ran behind schedule. Planes were grounded at Cleveland Municipal Airport. City officials told residents to stay home for most of the week.

But as the rest of the city cowered, at the mouth of the Cuyahoga, a hardy Coast Guardsman donned a head-to-toe snowsuit and braved the chill with a bayoneted rifle in hand. The unidentified guardsman watched over a sheet of ice that extended from the Main Avenue Bridge, past the art deco Coast Guard station where he stood and a mile into Lake Erie. 🔗 Read how one unidentified guardsman braved the cold and watched a sheet of ice that stretched over a mile: https://clevelandmagazine.com/in-the-cle/terminal/articles/1944-a-snow-storm-and-below-freezing-temperatures-shut-the-city-dow
