Movin and shakin

Around 1025 this morning York experienced a 3.8 magnitude earthquake just off shore, the effects of this were felt through southern York County and a bit beyond. There is no imminent danger at this time if you have any questions, please refer to Northeast geological service. Please refrain from calling the fire stations or 911 unless you have an emergency, thank you.

I remember this. My wife and I took photos of our picnic table before this storm and just 2 weeks later, you couldn’t see it anymore, buried completely in snow.

On This Day in Weather History: January 26-27, 2015.

The first storm of the 6 week "snow blitz" in early 2015 dumped 1 to 3 feet of snow across much of southern New England.

REMEMBER... Ice is NEVER 100% safe!!!
Recommended ice thickness for fishing or skating is a minimum of 4 inches.

With the fluctuating temperatures we have been experiencing around our area, the water has not had a chance to freeze solid without periods of melting. Areas where someone may have drilled a hole to fish have not had a chance to freeze back to a safe thickness and can be hard to see when on the ice.

Check with your local authorities first before driving out on ice. Most of western mass ice is too thin to support vehicles with the recent warmer temperatures

The Pittsfield Fire Department arrived at Pontoosuc Lake after responding to reports of a motor vehicle falling through the ice.

Two weather alerts today.

Wind advisory - 3pm today to 1am Thursday

Sustained Winds of 15-30mph, gusts 55-+. Some models have wind gusts up near 80 but I think that will be more localized out towards the Cape.

Flood Watch - 1pm today through Thursday morning

2-3” of rain, localized 4+ likely.

Jist of the next 24 hours, wet and windy AND temperatures near 60!

Certainly not December weather but I’m ok with that!
