100 DAYS, 100 UNSTOPPABLE WOMEN AND GIRLS ON THE RUNWAY; Day 3/100 : NATIONAL WOMEN IN SPORTS

Born in Mihuu, Kenya, to Nekesa Ruth and Athumani Wafula, Anne was a fit and healthy child before polio struck when she was two years old. She was given the middle name of Olympia at birth, a title of prophetic significance for the future and prescient of hurdles she would face in forthcoming years. Superstitious villages believed the family were cursed following Anne’s partial recovery from illness, which forced her family into decisions and acts that would change her life forever.

Arriving in the UK in April 2000, she was introduced to wheelchair racing in 2002 and in 2004 became the first Kenyan wheelchair racer to represent her country, competing in the T53 400m finals at the Paralympics in Athens. Following a successful application for British citizenship in 2006, she became a member of Team GB and, after reclassification, now competes in the T54 racing category as a British athlete.

16-year-old activist, philanthropist, and “future president” Mari Copeny is on the front lines helping kids to embrace their power through equal opportunity. In her tireless efforts to combat the water crisis that has plagued communities for years, a remarkable teenager has ingeniously harnessed the power of a celebrity feud to shed light on this pressing issue.

She wrote : Hey and
I have an idea! Let me introduce myself. I’m Mari and I’m a 16 year old from Flint, MI. I have been working half of my life to get clean water not just to Flint but to hundreds of other communities dealing with clean water crisis.

During the Flint water crisis I gave out over 1M bottles of water. But I learned a few things from doing that.
1. Bottled water is great for immediate crisis response but long term use is not cost effective
2. 90%+ of the empty water bottles were going to landfills

3. The long term effects of consuming microplastics on our bodies is still being studied but we know it’s not good for you.
4. Bottled water is a huge inconvenience when are having to use it exclusively to survive

Toxic drinking water is not just something that Flint deals with. Jackson, MS, Chicago, IL, and Newark, NJ are just a few of hundreds of cities with lead issues in their water (and if we add it PFAS you are looking at the entire country being exposed.

That’s why when I was 12 years old I pivoted my work to focus on a long term solution that is good for the environment. So I partnered with a scientist and I got my own water filter. This filter gets sent out from coast to coast to those needing safe water.

Now for nearly 5 years I have been on a mission to raise a million dollars to get my filters into as many homes as possible. I know what it’s like to live with “bad” water, and I knew just protesting the water was only a start.

Both of you have HUGE platforms. So I have a couple ideas.
Your new songs will be getting tons of streams. Can you please consider pledging to donate $0.01 for every stream you have on these songs for the next 24 to 48 hours?

As we kick off our 100 Unstoppable Women & Girls, 100 days on the Runway Campaign. I would like to share , this letter to my 10 year old self.

DEAR 10 Year old Self ..
I see you standing in front of that magnificent blue ford; It’s the very first car you recall your parents owned. It is evident that this vehicle holds a special place in your childhood memories, as it was the vehicle that brought you home from the hospital and drove you back and forth to kindergarten and most of elementary school. That blue ford was our faithful companion on countless family vacations, creating cherished moments that would last a lifetime. To you, it was more than just a car; it was a symbol of pride and envy among your peers; It was a masterpiece that symbolized endless possibilities.

As you proudly stood in front of it to take a picture, your gaze fixed on the dreams that danced within your mind. Little did you know that nearly three decades later, you would find yourself in a position to pitch your own dreams to influential Ford executives, who would become the driving force behind your aspirations, propelling them forward and inspiring girls all across the globe. Who could have predicted such a remarkable transformation?

Now, as you embark on this incredible journey, remember the significance of that blue ford. Just as it transported you to various destinations, it also carried your hopes, dreams and aspirations. It served as a constant reminder that anything is possible with determination and perseverance.

So, dear 10-year-old girl, continue to fuel your dreams forward. Embrace the opportunity to inspire and empower girls worldwide, just as that blue ford inspired you. Let your passion and ambition shine brightly, illuminating the path for others to follow. You have the power to create a lasting impact and make a difference in the lives of countless young girls around the world.

Believe in yourself, for the dreams that once resided within your innocent heart are now within your grasp. The blue ford was merely the beginning of a remarkable journey, and now it is your time to drive towards greatness.

With unwavering love, determination and a heart full of hope,

Sandra Alot Brogdon
