I leaving the Ohio Statehouse a few weeks back, feeling down because I hadn’t gotten much activism done that day.

I decided to head home.

I walked out of the House Chambers and down the stairs onto the most iconic part of the Statehouse- a giant pink dome called “the Rotunda”.

Legislators were streaming out the chambers after an especially long session when suddenly, I heard someone yell my name.

I turned to see the whip for the Dems bounding down the stairs after me.

Other legislators looked to see what the commotion was.

I froze.

The Whip caught up with me and quickly time me that she was a survior of child s*x abuse too, and that she too had decided to come forward.

I stayed frozen for a few more seconds as the reality of what she was saying sunk in.

Tears began to stream down our faces and hugged it out on the Rotunda as other legislators walked by wondering what the hell was happening.

After we both had felt our feels and talked about it some more, I told her that another legislator, a Senator, had also opened to up to me that he too was a survivor of childhood s*xual abuse.

Fast forward.

Their story made the front page in Columbus AND Cincinnati.

To my friends Representative & Senator - I am so proud of you, and so honored to stand by you in this fight!

Leadership is showing others how to do hard things!

If you’re a survivor of child s*x abuse, know this:

You are not alone!

News outlets like the & are shining a light in shadowy places.

Survivors. It’s go time.

We can end the cycle of shame and abuse!

It used to be scary to be an activist at the Ohio Statehouse.

Now it’s just fun.

As a confused x-alter boy, I used to think that God couldn’t possibly be real.

My shame and suffering was all the evidence I needed.

Now I see God moving every day, using my story to shine light in dark places.

I see freedom and healing.
I see shame being turned into victory.

I see a revolution.
