Check out this video! We have loved working with LightningCath on the installation of an extruder and a custom extrusion line. The first extruder is dedicated to producing common composite catheter shaft extrusions, balloon tubing, dilators, and sheaths. The second line is a full MED-EX Fluro line for FEP and has some unique features for high-level melt uniformity and pressure stability.

Next week we will drop a new episode of the Med-Ex podcast with guest Jonathan Jurgaitis, Sr. Extrusion Engineer at Spectrum Plastics Group about the work that Jonathan and the team at Spectrum Plastics have done to extrude and evaluate alternatives to liners for composite catheter shafts. That is not an easy task because there is no material quite like PTFE. PTFE has the lowest coefficient of friction of any material, and it also has remarkable temperature and chemical resistance and dielectric properties.
