Before going to bed he removed the “I have a dream,” phrase because the group thought it was trite, that he’d said it too many times before.

During his speech gospel singer Mahalia Jackson shouted out, “Tell ‘em about the dream, Martin.” King dropped the planned speech and started speaking directly.
