With about 10 years worth of piloting experience , many thousands of hours of flight time logged, and with over a dozen custom drone builds under my belt, I decided it was time to build my own cinema drone rig with “heavy lift” capabilities and lots of other bells and whistles. I gave myself a 2 month build window back in April (already having spent hundreds of hours of planning and acquiring all the various parts needed)…I never could have anticipated the speed bumps that would lay ahead for me, this build and our business.
The drone was assembled and ready for the tuning process at the end of April, but unfortunately for me, Aperture Aerials, and this project, we were robbed at a gig and lost many of the main camera components needed to make this work (some of the most expensive stuff too 😣), as well as many of the tools we use to run our production business. So it’s been a Summer of rebuilding to say the least. Needless to say, finally taking to the sky and throwing down the throttle on this fully loaded beast was a very proud moment.
I’m just extra lucky that I’ve got a network of friends, colleagues and family that support and encourage the way you all do, as these past few months your friendships and good juju have really helped to “chin-up” and push through all this. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
