Congratulations to Laura Janise, who was promoted to Assistant Chief last night at the Welsh city council meeting. Janise joined the Welsh Police Department in May of 2006 and her promotion is well deserved.

It is a beautiful Day out there today. Not so much 19 years ago. Hurricane Rita made landfall and Welsh was under mandatory evacuation. However, the show must go on. The Welsh Citizen was published on schedule and was the first newspaper in the Jeff Davis Parish to be published post-Rita. Welsh was without power for about a week, but a lot can be accomplished with a gasoline fueled generator.
We are still proud over the fact that Welsh Citicem was the first newspaper published in Jeff Davis and Calcasieu parishes.
