We are proud to announce the appointment of Interim Chief of Police Quincy Hamilton at last night's city council meeting. The city council accepted the resignation of Daniel Franklin at their meeting yesterday and appointed Chief Hamilton as interim chief.
Hamilton has been with the department since August of 2021. Later that year, he was promoted to Corporal, and in 2023 he was promoted to Lieutenant. Prior to joining the City of Willow Park, he served with the City of Jacksonville, Texas.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the department and maintain a high level of commitment to public safety in Willow Park," Hamilton said.
Please join us in congratulating our Interim Chief!

Goodness gracious, the archives at UTA Special Collections are beyond astonishing. Check out this photo, taken in Weatherford in 1884. These are the stone masons who built the beautiful Parker County courthouse in Weatherford, which is still in use. Look at the square-cut stone on behind the bearded man standing at the far left. Those stones are clearly the stones that are on the exterior of the courthouse today.

Sometimes I have to really study one of UTA Special Collections's photos, ponder it, and put two-and-two together to understand what it is that I'm looking at. This was one of those times. The only information the archive had was that this was taken in 1884 in Weatherford. I realize from the building in the background that it must have been taken on the square, where the courthouse is. Then I saw the aprons and though "wait a minute, these guys are masons." Then I thought "wait ... wasn't the Parker County courthouse opened in 1886?" I checked and, indeed, it was. And then I noticed those square-cut stones on the left, recalled my own photos of those stones, and it all clicked into place. In any case, this is a remarkable historical photo. And these men would probably be very pleased to know that, almost 140 years later, their work has stood the test of time!

Let's have a talk about domestic violence. For the first time in awhile, our most common crime here in Weatherford was not theft or drugs, but assault. You may know someone who is in an abusive relationship and wonder why they stay. Research shows these common reasons:

➡️Cycle of violence. Three cyclical phases in physically abusive intimate relationships keep a woman in the relationship: 1) a tension-building phase that includes minor physical and verbal abuse, 2) an acute battering phase, and 3) a makeup or honeymoon phase. The honeymoon phase lulls an abused woman into staying and the cycle repeats itself.

➡️Battered woman syndrome. A woman is so fearful from experiencing cycles of violence that she no longer believes escape is possible.

➡️Stockholm syndrome. A battered woman is essentially a hostage to her batterer. She develops a bond with and shows support for and kindness to her captor, perhaps because of her isolation from and deprivation of more normal relationships.

➡️Traumatic bonding theory. A battered woman experienced unhealthy or anxious attachments to her parents who abused or neglected her. The woman develops unhealthy attachments in her adult relationships and accepts intermittent violence from her intimate partner. She believes the affection and claims of remorse that follow because she needs positive acceptance from and bonding with the batterer.

➡️Psychological entrapment theory. A woman feels she has invested so much in the relationship, she is willing to tolerate the battering to save it.

We are here to help. We investigate every family violence call we receive. But sometimes, victims need a friend or advocate to walk beside them through this situation. If you suspect someone is struggling, let them know they are not alone. Encourage them to call us and go to 🔹www.thehotline.org🔹to find resources that are available to them.
