One of Watertown's long running family operated store on Court Street was The Globe, which was opened in 1892 by Hyman G. Ellis as a mere 500 sq. ft. store in the Cole Block. Construction began in 1919 on its new location, which later saw expansion to 40,000 sq. ft. in 1934, and other improvements over the years before closing in 1973. In the 1980s, the building operated as the Globe Mini-Mall. Currently, it's undergoing a $3.5 - $4.0 million transformation into 11 apartment units and 14,000 sq. ft. of commercial space.
