NYSP seeks public's assistance to identify person

"On December 9, 2024, at approximately 12:50 p.m., NY State Police responded to Walmart on US 11 in the town of LeRay for a larceny complaint.

State police in Watertown are attempting to identify the suspect who was captured on surveillance camera exiting the store allegedly without paying for merchandise.

Anyone who recognizes the individual in the photo is asked to contact State Police at (315) 366-6000, reference case # NY2400978299 and mention newzjunky."

Shortly after 11 a.m., driving entrances to the mall remained blocked by New York State Police.

The mall is closed Friday morning due to a threat, police said.

Destiny USA to reopen after temporary closure:

In the morning hours of Friday, December 27th, the Syracuse Police Department was made aware of a specific threat to Destiny USA. Working closely with our local, state, and federal partners, as well as management at Destiny USA, it was quickly determined that this information was both specific and actionable. Therefore, with the public’s safety in mind, a decision was made, in conjunction with Destiny USA ownership, to suspend operations at Destiny USA based on information received.

After an investigation, an individual was taken into custody without incident. There is no active threat to Destiny USA, and the mall will be reopening.

The safety and security of visitors, employees, and tenants remains our highest priority.​ We are proud to have a strong working partnership with the ownership group at Destiny USA, which enabled us to ensure that the public's safety was paramount throughout this incident. We would also like to thank the multiple other law enforcement partners who helped us bring this situation to a positive and safe conclusion.

UPDATE: The roadway was re-opened at 6 a.m.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Watertown police are investigating a motor vehicle accident that occurred around 4:15 a.m. Friday in the 1100 block of Coffeen Street involving a Chevrolet Impala. Wires are down across the roadway, prompting authorities to urge motorists to seek alternate routes. The Watertown City Fire Department, Guilfoyle Ambulance, Ray's Towing and National Grid are assisting at the scene. The driver was transported by an ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center. Police have not yet released any further information regarding the incident.
