Pavers… First trip: power washed with my surface cleaner. Second trip: swept in polymeric sand, leveled it with the leaf blower and soaked it. Third trip: Now dry, I sprayed on a high gloss clear finish. Big difference. Looks great.

Two days later… sealed Pecan. Came out great. Homeowner loves it.

Greetings! Welcome to a first-person dialog about the deck restoration business! I’ll try to keep it informative and entertaining.

POV: Heading in to Deck Season 2024.

About me: I got a degree from the College of Business at Western Michigan University in 1981 and a week later drove out to California to work in ‘Silicon Valley’, where I spent 10 years bouncing around tech companies, in sales positions, before returning to Michigan with a start up mentality and before long started up a deck maintenance business - an emerging market at the time. It afforded me the opportunity to work outdoors and manage my own time, a welcome change. I said, “I’ll do this for maybe five years”, which turned in to ten, then twenty and now over thirty years. Meanwhile, I became a snowbird, spending my Winters in Florida and returning every Spring to start up the deck business again… a pretty good life.

Fast forward: Heading in to Deck Season 2024, as a side gig, at retirement age. I got this...
