Calgaro, a Canon-McMillan graduate, finished with a team-leading 105 tackles with five games of at least 10 tackles.

The sophomore led the NEC in tackles per game with a 9.5 average and ranked second in overall tackles with 105. He also ranked fifth in the league for tackles for a loss (10.5). The sophomore ranked 17th in FCS in tackles per game and was one of 39 players to reach 100 tackles on the year at the FCS level.

Geno Calgaro, a member of the St. Francis football team, was named to the All-Northeast Conference first team as a linebacker. Honor Huff scored 24 points behind eight 3-pointers, and Treysen Eaglestaff added 23 for West Virginia in a 90-58 win over Little Rock on Tuesday night.

The Mountaineers (8-2) pulled away on a 19-2 run that lasted almost six minutes. Huff shot 8 of 13 from the field and 8 of 11 from 3-point range. He became the nation’s leader in 3-point field goals made in the second half, one short of tying the school record.

The Pittsburgh Penguins placed center Evgeni Malkin on injured reserve Tuesday with an upper-body injury.

The move comes after the 39-year-old Malkin sat out a shootout loss to Dallas on Sunday. Malkin, in the final season of his contract with the Penguins, is off to one of the better starts of his 20-year career.

The Russian has eight goals and 21 assists in 26 games for surprising Pittsburgh, which began the season with modest expectations but is firmly in contention in the competitive Metropolitan Division.

Mikko Rantanen’s final-round score was the only goal of the shootout and Jake Oettinger made 27 saves as the Dallas Stars beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Sunday night.

After Rantanen beat Tristan Jarry stick side, Oettinger stopped Kris Letang to end the game and record his league-high 14th win.

Defenseman Miro Heiskanen scored 6-on-5 to tie the score 2-2 with 1:49 left in regulation and Jamie Benn also scored for the Stars, who have won three consecutive games and are 8-0-2 in their last 10 games.

Nobody paying attention over the past 24 months would be surprised to see Indiana leading the way into this year’s College Football Playoff.

But anyone paying attention over the last 24 hours knew the only sure thing beyond the Hoosiers was that the playoff selection committee was destined to get picked apart when it released the pairings for this season’s 12-team bracket on Sunday.

Matthew Carte didn’t mind working overtime Saturday afternoon.

Carte scored seven of his nine points in the extra period to help Washington & Jefferson secure an 86-82 win at Franciscan (1-1, 5-2) in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play.

Carte had half of Washington & Jefferson’s points in overtime, which was needed because the game was tied 72-72 at the end of regulation.

Mike Tomlin isn’t immune to the chorus of boos that chased the Pittsburgh Steelers to the locker room after a blowout loss to Buffalo on Sunday.

If anything, the longest-tenured coach in the NFL felt the same way after watching his team get pushed around while losing for the fifth time in seven games.

“In general, I agree with them, from this perspective: Football is our game, we’re in a sport/entertainment business,” Tomlin said Tuesday. “And so if you root for the Steelers, entertaining them is winning. And so when you’re not winning, it’s not entertaining.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed the veteran wide receiver to their practice squad on Tuesday, a day after the 35-year-old was released by the Minnesota Vikings so he could pursue more playing time elsewhere.

Thielen had just eight catches for 69 yards in his return to Minnesota, where he starred from 2014-22 before a two-year stint with Carolina.

It might not take Thielen long to find his way onto the field in Pittsburgh. The Steelers (6-6) have struggled to do much in the pass game of late with neither Roman Wilson nor Calvin Austin III becoming consistent contributors alongside DK Metcalf.

Louprint and Breeders Crown champion Sippinonsearoc – two of the top 3-year-old pacers in North America – have been retired to stud.

Champion pacing c**t Louprint has officially been retired from racing and will begin his stud career in 2026.

He will stand at Winterwood Farm in Ohio under the management of Diamond Creek Farm.

Sippinonsearoc — this year’s 3-year-old c**t Breeders Crown champion and former fastest 2-year-old of all time, will stand the 2026 breeding season in Indiana at Victory Hill Farms under the management of Dr. J Stallion Management for an introductory stud fee of $7,500.

One of Mike Tomlin’s pet phrases is “smile in the face of adversity,” a “Tomlin-ism” the Pittsburgh Steelers coach trots out occasionally when his team hits a rough patch.

Yet the corners of Tomlin’s mouth never perked up — not even once — as he tried to sift through the rubble of a 26-7 loss to Buffalo on Sunday that was as emphatic as it was complete.

Instead, the longest-tenured coach in major North American team sports sounded almost resigned after spending three hours watching his team get whipped in a way that it rarely has during his 19 years on the job.
