The New York Giants fired coach Brian Daboll on Monday, according to two people with knowledge of the situation, moving on from him midway through his fourth season after they dropped to 2-8 with a loss at Chicago.

The people spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the move had not been announced. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka was named as the interim replacement, the people told AP.

Aaron Rodgers’ tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers began on a high note with four wins in five games to start the season.

Since then, however, the 41-year-old quarterback’s performance has gotten progressively worse and worse as the Steelers have lost three of four.

Rodgers went 16 of 31 for 161 yards with a touchdown, two interceptions and a fumble in Pittsburgh’s 25-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night. He was sacked three times, took a safety and finished with a 50.6 passer rating, his lowest mark of the season.

Kevin Fiala broke a tie with 8:08 left with his 500th NHL point to help the Los Angeles Kings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Sunday to open a six-game trip.

Fiala got around defenseman Erik Karlsson and shot over goalie Sergei Murashov. Fiala also had an assist. The 29-year-old Swiss winger has 218 goals and 282 assists in 667 regular-season games with Nashville, Minnesota and Los Angeles.

The Presidents (7-0, 7-2) locked up the PAC title with a 49-7 win over Geneva (5-2, 5-4) Saturday at Reeves Field in Beaver Falls.

They also clinched a spot in the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Waynesburg erased a 16-point deficit and defeated St. John Fisher 75-73 in overtime to win the championship game of the season-opening Hawks Against Hunger tournament in Hamburg, N.Y., on Saturday night.

Waynesburg is off to its first 2-0 start since the 2013-14 season.

The Yellow Jackets trailed 43-29 at halftime and by as many as 16 points early in the second half. A 12-0 Waynesburg run pulled the Yellow Jackets to within one point and they took their first lead of the game at 69-68 with 1:07 remaining in regulation on a three-pointer by Jalen Goins.

It’s the first state playoff win in program history for McConnellsburg, which was the runner-up in District 5.

Waynesburg’s historic girls volleyball season came to an end Tuesday night with a three-set loss at District 10 champion Corry in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A playoffs.

Corry won 26-24, 25-19, 25-15.

The loss ends Waynesburg’s first trip to the state tournament with a 21-2 record.

If Peters Township head coach Chris Kelly has many more volleyball matches like this one Tuesday night, he’ll need a large box of antacids with him along the sidelines.

The Indians blew through the first game of this first round of the PIAA Class 4A playoffs like nobody’s business. The rest of the games were white-knuckle affairs.

Still, the object is to advance and that’s what the Indians did, 3-1. Peters Township will play Saturday against either Unionville or Southwestern.

Players from District 2 have become Gabby Dusi’s kryponite.

The Belle Vernon senior battled through the pain in the left side of her abdominal area to earn a spot in the final of the PIAA Class 2A Girls Singles Tennis Championship on Saturday at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Dusi and Montrose junior Cara Evans had a spirited three-set match, which culminated in Evans earning a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win for the championship.

When Angela Zeng raced down the second hill on the Hershey Parkview Cross Country Course Saturday morning in the Class 3A girls race at the PIAA Championships, the leaders started to pull away, but the South Fayette sophomore didn’t let that deter her from finishing strong.

Zeng focused on her form and pushed through to finish sixth out of 238 competitors. Zeng crossed the finish line in 18:49.
