West Virginia running back Jahiem White and wide receiver Jaden Bray will miss the rest of the season with injuries, coach Rich Rodriguez said Monday.

Rodriguez announced on his weekly radio show that White will undergo surgery later this week and that Bray will require surgery at some point.

Andrew Vaughn had four hits and Jacob Misiorowski cruised through seven innings as the Milwaukee Brewers scored nine runs off top prospect Bubba Chandler to complete a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 10-2 win Sunday.

Vaughn’s three singles and a double in his first four at bats made up his first four-hit game since Aug. 12, 2024, while with the White Sox.

Misiorowski (5-2) allowed one run and three hits, striking out eight while going more than six innings for the first time in the majors.

Andrew McCutchen and Bryan Reynolds homered off last-minute spot starter Emmett Sheehan and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0 on Wednesday night.

Sheehan (5-3) got the nod when the Dodgers opted to let Shohei Ohtani skip his scheduled start while dealing with an illness. Ohtani remained in the lineup, however, and had two of Los Angeles’ five hits. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the hope is Ohtani can return to the mound this weekend in Baltimore.

Sauce Gardner shared a special handshake and plenty of laughs with Aaron Rodgers during their two years as teammates with the New York Jets.

They’ll square off as opponents Sunday when Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers come to MetLife Stadium for one of the juiciest storylines in Week 1 of the NFL season.

Kick returns are still a highlight in high school: A kickoff return for a touchdown in the NFL nowadays is about as rare as a Bigfoot sighting. Even with some rule changes geared toward more return opportunities, they just don’t happen much.

There is a long sign beyond the left-field wall at EQT Park that lists all of the years the Wild Things have won division titles. That sign needs to be updated before next year to include 2025.

Washington capped an amazing and unlikely late-season charge to the top of the Central Division on Sunday night when it won the 10th title in franchise history.

And this one ended in a different way than all the others.

Oneil Cruz homered, Bryan Reynolds drove in two runs and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Boston Red Sox 10-3 on Saturday.

Tommy Pham and Nick Gonzales also drove in two runs apiece as Pittsburgh won for the eighth time in 10 games. Johan Oviedo (2-0) pitched five innings of two-run ball.

Pittsburgh also beat Boston 4-2 on Friday night. The Pirates (61-76) are in last place in the NL Central, and the Red Sox (75-62) hold the second wild-card position in the AL.

The Frontier League’s regular season is a 116-day marathon, running from early May to the last day in August. It will take all 116 of them to determine the Central Division champion.

Washington and Lake Erie will sprint to the finish line in different time zones Sunday. The Wild Things will have a head start, thanks to the results of play Saturday night.

The Wild Things defeated Down East in the Frontier League’s quirky sudden-death inning – the 11th – while Lake Erie lost 2-1 at Joliet. Washington’s win and Lake Erie’s loss moves the Wild Things into sole possession of first place in the division with one day remaining.

There was a lot of anticipation for West Virginia’s 2025 season. Rich Rodriguez was back, after 18 years, and looked to pick up where he left off, bringing WVU back into the ranks. It wasn’t as clean as Rodriguez had hoped.

The Mountaineers still bested Robert Morris 45-3 Saturday afternoon, but it wasn’t up to the caliber of a win over an FCS opponent that it should’ve been.

Rodriguez talked a lot in the offseason about his non-negotiables, and the biggest was negative plays. A negative play is anytime the ball goes backwards, rather than forward. WVU had a lot of going backward Saturday afternoon.
