Leon Draisaitl had four assists and became the fourth-fastest active player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career points as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-4 on Tuesday night.

Draisaitl, who hit the milestone in the first period on a secondary assist, became the 103rd player in NHL history, first German-born player and fifth in franchise history to reach 1,000 points. He has 416 goals and 587 assists in 824 games for 1,003 points.

Alex Acosta scored a game-high 20 points, Nathan Plotner added 18, including a key dunk in the closing minutes, and Washington & Jefferson extended its winning streak to five games with a 79-73 win at Capital in a non-conference contest Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio.

Capital (5-5) trailed 43-40 at halftime but the Crusaders went ahead at 63-62 with less than 11 minutes to play. W&J (8-2) then embarked on a pivotal 13-4 run that opened a 75-67 advantage.

Pitt is one of 12 Atlantic Coast Conference schools set to play nine conference games during the 2026 season, the league announced Tuesday as it unveiled each of its 17 football programs’ conference opponents.

The Panthers’ home conference schedule includes Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Syracuse. Pitt will travel to face Boston College, California, Louisville, Miami and Virginia Tech.

Fernando Mendoza, the enthusiastic quarterback of No. 1 Indiana, won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night, becoming the first Hoosier to win college football’s most prestigious award since its inception in 1935.

Mendoza claimed 2,362 points, including 643 first-place votes. He beat Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia (1,435 points), Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love (719 points) and Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin (432 points).

T.J. Watt enjoys being a mentor. Yes, the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker understands it’s part of the job when you’re among the best in the world at what you do. Still, the perennial Pro Bowler has long leaned into it, particularly when it comes to Nick Herbig.

The first tell-tale sign that Watt understood Herbig had the potential to be a difference-maker came during Herbig’s rookie season two years ago.

Dylan Guenther scored 42 seconds into overtime and the Utah Mammoth rallied to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 on Sunday.

Guenther, who has five goals in his last four games, beat Sergei Murashov with a wrist shot from the slot. Utah won its second straight following a three-game losing streak.

Michael Carcone scored twice for Utah, while Nate Schmidt and Sean Durzi also added third-period goals, as the Mammoth briefly pulled ahead, 4-3, after trailing 3-0 entering the final 20 minutes.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and two-time All-Star reliever Gregory Soto have agreed to a $7.75 million, one-year contract, a person with knowledge of the deal told the Associated Press late Tuesday night.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the agreement was subject to a successful physical.

Soto gives the Pirates an experienced left-handed option in a bullpen that will get a makeover in 2026 after relievers Colin Holderman and Dauri Moreta were designated for assignment last month.

The sophomore led the NEC in tackles per game with a 9.5 average and ranked second in overall tackles with 105. He also ranked fifth in the league for tackles for a loss (10.5). The sophomore ranked 17th in FCS in tackles per game and was one of 39 players to reach 100 tackles on the year at the FCS level.

Honor Huff scored 24 points behind eight 3-pointers, and Treysen Eaglestaff added 23 for West Virginia in a 90-58 win over Little Rock on Tuesday night.

The Mountaineers (8-2) pulled away on a 19-2 run that lasted almost six minutes. Huff shot 8 of 13 from the field and 8 of 11 from 3-point range. He became the nation’s leader in 3-point field goals made in the second half, one short of tying the school record.

The Pittsburgh Penguins placed center Evgeni Malkin on injured reserve Tuesday with an upper-body injury.

The move comes after the 39-year-old Malkin sat out a shootout loss to Dallas on Sunday. Malkin, in the final season of his contract with the Penguins, is off to one of the better starts of his 20-year career.

The Russian has eight goals and 21 assists in 26 games for surprising Pittsburgh, which began the season with modest expectations but is firmly in contention in the competitive Metropolitan Division.

Mikko Rantanen’s final-round score was the only goal of the shootout and Jake Oettinger made 27 saves as the Dallas Stars beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Sunday night.

After Rantanen beat Tristan Jarry stick side, Oettinger stopped Kris Letang to end the game and record his league-high 14th win.

Defenseman Miro Heiskanen scored 6-on-5 to tie the score 2-2 with 1:49 left in regulation and Jamie Benn also scored for the Stars, who have won three consecutive games and are 8-0-2 in their last 10 games.
