Today’s Kulcha Shak 5 O’clock Artist Spotlight will shine on The Beautiful and Talented DANII ROUNDTREE! Another conversation you do not want to miss!
Danii is a retro goddess whose life revolves her craft. As she coats her vast range of talents, we enter her world through her rose-tinted glasses. This vibrant Soul/ Pop, R&B, Jazz artist has a sound that makes you think of the classic timeless music from yesterday, fused with the freshness of today.
Danii discovered her love for music at age 11 when she started taking up singing and quickly began performing live. After graduating from high school at Dillard Center for the Performing Arts, Danii attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts with a major in Vocal Performance with a concentration on Jazz Vocals. Danii went on to study musical theater at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in conjunction with The New School in New York City.
While still in school, Danii earned the title of "Miss New York USA" in 2008, beating out over 300 contestants. She was the first black woman to win the title in over 10 years, and later went on the represent New York in the nationally televised Miss USA pageant. Danii was then chosen as one of just 20 in the United States to be showcased in Broadway’s summer concert series “Broadway’s Rising Stars.” Her career shifted in 2009 when she competed on the hit television show American Idol. Danii made it to the top 100, but had to leave the show due to illness. Although she didn’t win, Danii caught the recording bug and decided to dedicate her efforts creating her own music.

NAVASHA DAYA is an internationally renowned recording and performing artist, songwriter, singer, composer, producer, choreographer and committed cultural arts activist, who is internationally known as a breath-taking performer. On stage, Navasha embodies the indigenous feminine spirit and inspires women throughout the world. In addition to her solo career, Navasha toured (2013-2015) as a guest artist, singing with the Grammy Award winning a capella group “Sweet Honey In The Rock.” Prior to her solo releases, Navasha served as lead vocalist, songwriter and co-founder of the highly acclaimed Baltimore based soul/jazz band, Fertile Ground. A Baltimore transplant by way of Cleveland, OH, Navasha Daya’s impact on the world reaches far beyond the stage - Navasha is also Co-Director of the Cherry Hill Arts & Music Waterfront Festival in South Baltimore, MD and Co-Founder and Director of the Healing & Performing Arts of the Youth Resiliency Institute a non-profit that serves youth and families in Baltimore, MD and East Cleveland, OH.
