As a nonprofit organization operating on a cost-recovery basis, BioOne provides a balanced, low-cost alternative to restrictive commercial publishers without sacrificing the quality research, global reach, and flexible technology that librarians and their patrons require. As such, BioOne remains dedicated to the work of publishers from nonprofit societies, associations, museums, institutions, and

presses located around the world. We seek to preserve and promote a critical segment of bioscience research and best practices in scholarly communication by providing a sustainable online platform for 207 full-text publications.

We’re proud to announce that starting in January 2026, 71 titles from 54 global societies, museums, and research organizations will be part of BioOne’s Subscribe to Open (S2O) pilot! This is the largest group of independent publishers ever to participate in a single S2O initiative.

By supporting open access in the biological, ecological, and environmental sciences, this program will ensure wider access to important research while promoting sustainable publishing for nonprofits and independent organizations.

71 titles from 54 global societies, museums, and research organizations will participate in BioOne's Subscribe to Open (S2O) pilot beginning in January 2026. This represents the largest number of independent publishers under a single S2O offer to date.
