Orban wants to shut down the Central European University since it is not promoting his quest for an "illiberal democracy".

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Friday a Budapest university founded by financier George Soros had "cheated" in awarding its diplomas and violated Hungarian laws.

We also wanted to take this opportunity to make you aware of our end of the semester holiday event on Friday, December 2nd at the Bulldog Tavern.

The SFS Europe Forum is pleased to welcome David Rennie, chief Washington correspondent for The Economist and author of its "Lexington" column, for an informal discussion on "The Politics of Loss and the Rise of Populism". Mr. Rennie previously authored the magazine's "Charlemagne" and "Bagehot" columns, and brings considerable experience commenting on political affairs from London, Brussels, and Washington.

The event will be at 6:00pm on Thursday, November 17th in the Mortara Center (3600 N St. NW). It will be followed by a short wine reception. For tickets, please register below. Please bring you ID as priority will be given to Georgetown students.
