The cicadas are coming to the Midwest. Three years ago, Brood X engulfed the Mid-Atlantic. We put out a 20-track compilation based solely on field recordings of Brood X.

Feast your ears on the manipulated s*x screams of Brood X. This thing ranges from harsh noise to beautiful droning ambience to techno.

Today, we release a compilation called Noise for Ukraine. For those who curated the album, it is deeply personal. For those on the compilation, it is a show of solidarity with the victims of an unjust war. But music that supports a serious cause doesn't have to be overly serious.

Proceeds (after Bandcamp and Paypal take their cuts) go to Ukraine TrustChain.

You can buy the album at https://fuzzypanda.bandcamp.com/album/noise-for-ukraine

Open Call for a Compilation for Ukraine

We are calling musicians and sound artists from all over the world.

We are extremely concerned about the war in Ukraine and the aggression of Putin’s army.

We are trying to do our small part by raising money and raising awareness for the humanitarian disaster that is happening in Europe right now.

We are looking for artists from all around the world in the genres of electronic music, experimental, ambient, industrial, Techno and related styles for a compilation. We would like to make this as broad as possible, so if in doubt, please submit your tracks.

We encourage everyone from everywhere to submit. The global south, minorities, female artists, LGBTIQ*-artists, yes, we encourage Russian artists to speak up, All of you are invited to submit a track.

All proceeds from the sale of this compilation will be split evenly between the charities Vostok SOS and the Ukrainian Red Cross.

This call was initiated by the musicians from Snowbeasts (Elizabeth Virosa and Robert Galbraith from Providence, USA} and Kai Niggemann (Köln, Germany). Please spread the word all around the world. We’d love this project to be as international and broad as possible.

The album will be a digital release on component recordings (Providence, USA) as a digital release. Due to urgency and need, we request that tracks arrive by March 10, 2022. Exclusive tracks are preferred but not required.

TYMBAL is available now from Fuzzy Panda Recording Company at https://fuzzypanda.bandcamp.com/album/tymbal.

Artists from across the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest have manipulated and twisted field recordings of this year’s crop of Brood X cicadas into twenty tracks that celebrate the insect’s loud mating sounds. TYMBAL features experimental artists as diverse as Patrick McMinn, Chester Hawkins, Pas Musique, and Joo Won Park.

In this compilation, musicians were given a sample palette with which to make their own original recording. For TYMBAL, this consisted of four hours of Brood X field recordings by Noel Mueller in Baltimore and Beau Finley in Washington, DC. In keeping with past Fuzzy Panda compilations, artists were limited to only the source samples without additional instrumentation. The results span the soft, forested hills of ambient drone to the skittering abstractions of modern computer music to noise in its varied harshness.

TYMBAL emerges.

Our newest and wildest compilation is now available.

Twenty artists worked solely from four hours of cicada sounds recorded in DC and Baltimore. It is incredible. Taking essentially pink noise and making compelling and interesting music is tough to do, but the artists involved nailed it.

If you live in the Mid-Atlantic or Midwest, you may have heard the cacophonous sound of Brood X cicadas, which emerge once every seventeen years to grow wings, shriek in trees, mate, and then die. We heard their screams, made field recordings, and then turned those sounds into music.

TYMBAL is the result.

It is 100 minutes of music made by incredible experimental artists. It is the kind of thing that only comes around once every seventeen years.

Love of Ruins sat down for a virtual interview about his track on TYMBAL, our cicada-based compilation. It's too big of a video for Facebook, so YouTube it is! We talk about Mikey Dubs musical growth, his approach to his bonkers contribution to this compilation, and wrap up with some (possibly apocryphal) stories of our friend Jeffrey Prosser.

Mike Reger sat down for a virtual interview with Beau Finley to discuss his approach to music, his work, and how he developed his frankly bonkers track "Broo...

A Closer Listen gave TYMBAL a spin and found it far more s*x-driven than most of us thought possible. Those Brood X cicadas were THIRSTY and it apparently shines through, despite the reverb, delay, and other processing.

The 100 minutes of drone (and one bonkers fun cicada-based techno track) is available for pre-order now and will be released on September 28.

By all accounts, cicadas draw the short end of the stick. After 17 years in the ground, they hatch, mate and die. They are old enough to see R-rated movies, but they never reach voting or drinkin…

Disposable Underground wrote up our upcoming compilation, Tymbal.

Cover photo by Disposable Underground of Destroyer of Worlds, who has the first track on the comp.

That's right, twenty tracks of cicada noises as source material.

Tag Cloud sat down for a virtual interview to discuss his contribution to our compilation TYMBAL. If you're looking for a podcast-like interview about music, sound, and gear, then this is for you. After the interview, you can hear Tag Cloud's track "Brooding."
