Because of the results of the current election, a lot of us are not and will not be safe for a while. I’ve seen tons of resources being shared on different platforms which is incredible but it’s unfortunate that most of them are not accessible in a variety of ways. Please make sure they are. It’s important.

ID: white text on a black background “I want to remind everyone that when sharing resources that support diverse/marginalized communities—such as disabled people, Black and POC communities, women, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and others—it’s essential to make sure these resources are accessible.

This means including image and/or video descriptions, captions/subtitles, and transcripts. If possible, offering translations into other languages, like Spanish, is also incredibly valuable.

Everyone deserves full access to information that helps us stay safe, informed, and aware for the next few years.”

Hello beautiful people! So, it seems my recent reel is getting a lot of traction and some angry hearing people (which I’ve already expected). It seems some are misunderstanding it or missing the point.

We always encourage everyone to learn signed languages! There are time and places for you to practice such as ASL events, expos, coffee chat meetups, signing spaces both in-person or online. A lot of us would be happy to chat with new signers in those spaces. But when we are out having personal time with friends or family at a restaurant, or out shopping for clothes or even food, or just hanging out somewhere, that’s not a good time or place to try to practice. However, a lot of different Deaf and HoH people would have different reactions to that but don’t expect someone to be completely okay with it because often times it’s really awkward and intrusive.

If you need to ask a question or even compliment someone, that’s totally okay! That’s different than trying to practice on a stranger. I don’t expect anyone to understand fully if they haven’t been immersed or aware of Deaf culture, that’s why I try to be open and honest about these things. Hope y’all understand.

If you’d like for resources or even spaces online to practice or learn ASL, go check out my pinned post or visit linktr.ee/fishr for more information ❤️‍🔥
