This past week was all kinds of exciting! The grand piano is in the studio, and also I went on a quick run to Bristol and Atlanta. And I’m writing this from my hotel room in Chicago getting ready to head to sound check for tonight. And tomorrow I get to see my mom at a show!!!!!

The studio has air conditioning… you know what that means? Everything is now plugged in and routed and ready to record!!!!!!!
Now I’m just trying to find a plumber. Also, we went on vacation and got some of the greatest ice cream on earth!!!! First session is in September! It’s almost time!!

So much to say! Sorry I’ve been away so long! Things are really amping up now!! I’ve also started touring with the Ultimate Garth tribute band. And the HVAC is being installed while I write this on the way to Chicago for a quick out and back show. Then on to vacation! Oh……. And the first Byrdsongs Studios session is booked!!!!!!! We’re open in September!!!!!!!

It’s been a productive couple of weeks! We have the glass up for the control and live room, and all the finishing touches are starting! Heck! We even put up some art in the airbnb! Also, you can tell I work AV for convention centers because all the trim also serves to hide cables….

This is an eventful week! First, we got the wall fabric up! Then we finished the trim in the studio. Right now I’m sitting in my hotel room getting ready to go play night two of worship music with and finally, today is my 29 year Eagle Scout anniversary!!!!!!!!

The painting is done and now the floors are getting a good cleaning every day to get ready to put the fabric on the walls in the iso booths. Those wood things are what the cables will run through to connect everything to the board. One last influx of cash, and this baby is open for business……. Oh! And also, the boy crossed over to Boy Scouts this week!!!! I even put my scout shirt on for the occasion!!!

I waited for an update this week so that I could say all that paint I got last week is ON THE WALLS!!!!! The studio is painted and the is almost painted!!!!! I’m finally almost out of the construction business and back into the music production business!!!! It’s getting close folks! Check your calendar and come see us!!! 🎼 🎶 🎸 🥁 🎹

I worked as a worship pastor for a church in Virginia ( ) and I was there as they were building the place that they are in now. One of the things they did as it was being finished was go in and write some prayers on the subfloors and places that would be covered so that in the foundation of the church there were prayers and Bible verses. That was really neat. Well, while I am building this place, I get lots of thoughts of prayers and Bible verses in my head, so before the floors go in tomorrow, I decided to write those prayers and Bible verses on the foundation and on the studs and in every spot that there will be a player. Especially under where I will be recording and mixing and producing. I hesitated to share this, because I wanted it to be just private for me, and there are way more than I shared here…. Just know when you come here, it’s been well bathed in prayer and scripture!

Kind of out of order, but here’s how you make sure your live room is sound proof… good rock/mineral wool insulation, then you float the drywall off of the actual stud, I used iso-rafts, then a layer of 5/8 drywall, then you put this mass loaded vinyl on, then another layer of drywall! All sealed with green glue. So it’s a room in a room in a room! Whew. Mercy. It’s almost time to move in and make some music!!!!!!!

Well, all of Nashville kind of shut down the last few days, so we’ve been sledding and having fun in the snow! Back to work soon though!!

We’re getting ready for the final phase of the build!!! Also, I found this awesome reception desk at a Habitat for Humanity resale place! And it’s a lot of planning and drawing to install snakes and mice cables!! Mercy. Tyler is a good sweeper and dust artist! Really close now!!!

All the rough in wiring is done! The area around the building has been leveled and graded, and we have grass growing everywhere!!! Well… except at the entrance doors. Looks like I’m making a porch!
You can see my helper animals are getting good at finding the pieces I need!

I can’t remember if I told y’all about this yet. These are called iso-rafts. Or studio floats. These decouple the actual drywall from the frame of the building. That little piece of silicon in there helps the whole wall to become a membrane style bass trap. That way none of the vibrations of the music can escape the room and none of the outside noises can come in. I put HUNDREDS of these up, then put wood furring strips on them and then 2 layers of drywall with mass loaded vinyl in between them. And the wall itself is stuffed with safe and sound rock wool. If you want a good studio, you gotta do it right!!! Electricity comes next week, and then I get to put the skin on this skeleton…. Almost there!!!!

What a beautiful sunset on the property! Also, all the grading work and driveway is done!! You can walk right in!! It’s getting closer by the minute, and I’d like to thank God for reminding me how cool He is.

In the process of building a business, you need to sometimes get away to remember why you’re doing what you’re doing. This past weekend I headed up to St Louis to see the old gang, and we watched Metallica!!!!!!! Then I came home and gave a driving lesson… there will be more construction this week! We’re getting close!

The skeleton has been built for a while, and today, all the stuff came in to put the guts and skin on!!!! This studio is about to be open folks!!!!! And, yes, the chickens are moved out to their little coop now…

The water line and septic is in now for the studio and !!! We’re getting to the final phases now! I met with the electric inspector and made a HUGE purchase to get all the soundproofing and drywall and insulation. Then I was at Lowe’s this morning and it looks like they’re getting the order together for us! Hopefully early November will be the first sessions!!!

After a cub weekend with family and some fun trade show times, we’re headed to Detroit for som well earned relax time! Of course we had to start with a fire and some s’mores outside the studio last night!

Late night stem bouncing and sending sessions around!! I always start a composition notebook for every project and it has everything in it from the record. These four patiently waiting folks are such great people dealing with me in this move and building phase! Soon this board will be in the real control room of the final studio! And as always, George the cat is annoyed and sitting on the console. Also I went downtown for hockey and some friends of mine were playing!

So, there are lots of things when you move a business to a new location. Especially when you’re trying to build the new place with cash and not going into debt. This week, God reminded me that His timing is perfect, and His provision is enough. My job is to love Him and seek His kingdom first. Then all the “things” are in His hand. I looked at my prayers for this studio, and one of them just simply said “make God proud of my work”

I wanted to show those dates, and how sometimes God laughs at your scheming. This will open soon, though!! Maybe not on the date I was aiming for, but soon!!! Lots of construction kicking off in the next week or so!
