Lots of misinformation out there about the RV crash and power outage last night. Here is the press release from the Walla Walla Police Department. Shout out to the power company for getting the power back before 9 pm. There were three power poles that came down in the incident. Thanks to the city crew for cleaning the glass and debris first thing this morning.

CORRECTION! The Times erroneously reported in this week's paper that the city was going to test its siren at noon for its proposed restoration of the weekly midday whistle.
The siren was actually tested at ten a.m. this morning for its use in emergency applications, including flood, fire, and other imminent disasters. The emergency or "flood" siren will go up in sound for six seconds, lessening for six, and back up for six over a period of time. This creates the more common siren sound used on emergency vehicles and will be used to alert residents.
The noon siren or "whistle" was not tested but will eventually be sounded at noon on Monday through Friday for 10 seconds.
Volunteers led by Louie Gagnon have funded and are working with a contractor to make the necessary repairs and adjustments to the system. Once parts for the automated switch have arrived, the noon whistle will go online Mondays through Fridays.
The Times apologizes for the confusion.

With honey and lime, this sweet and tart raspberry sorbet is our new favorite summer cool treat! 🍨🍯🌞💖

As we moved into our house, we learned from the previous owners that there had once been a large in-ground pool in the backyard, which apparently had been a popular hangout for local housewives in the sixties and seventies. Unfortunately, when the maintenance costs got to be too much, the decision w...

Checking out Bard & Bee Meadery is another great reason to stop by the Blue Mountain Station this weekend. 🍯🥂🐝💛

Great stories often start with a man and his dog. In Dayton, it is the story of an entertainer and his winged pollinators making a run at an ancient art. "I'm a farm kid," said Mike Collins, owner and mead maker at Bard and Bee Meadery. "I grew up, part in Milton Freewater, with my grandparents." Hi...

Fresh paint and changing signs, Waitsburg saw some exciting changes on Main Street this week.

Two big changes can be seen on Main Street in Waitsburg. Earlier this week, the city removed the Waitsburg City Hall sign from the recently surplused building. On April 5th, building owners Tom and Judy Bennett watched as painters applied the primer covering the black and white flag leftover from th...

Snow geese, sandhill cranes and swans, oh my! This month, a daytrip to the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge, just outside of Othello, provides one a chance to see some beautiful migratory birds resting mid journey. Karen Huwe shared some fantastic photos from a recent trip. 🦢🦆🐦

Parts of the Columbia NWR are closed from February 1 to April 30 so the sandhill cranes will not be disturbed. The cranes feed in fields of waste corn in the early mornings and early evenings to gather and store fat energy so they can continue their flight to Alaska. When not feeding they gather at....
