❗️ROAD CLOSURE❗️

Nile’s Ferry Road in Vonore is completely shut down between Lakeview Farms entrance and Mountain View Drive due to several trees down on power lines. Vonore Public Works will have the road shut down until FLEC has removed the trees, we have no estimate on when the road will be opened up.

‼️UPDATE‼️
Road has been cleaned is now open.

*Motor Vehicle Accident*
Avoid Sweetwater Vonore Road if possible. A Wright Brothers truck has flipped over and the entire road is blocked right before Thompson Farm Road.

Expect heavy traffic at the Highway 411 and Highway 72W intersection in Vonore due to an auto accident after a police chase.

**PSA**
Due to heavy rain Vonore and the surrounding areas are experiencing flooding. Please avoid flooded roadways if you see a flooded area turn around. Also roads alongside creeks and lakes can be dangerous due to the ground being soft underneath and will be unstable. Road collapse is a common occurrence after heavy rain. So once again avoid flooded roadways and roads next to creeks and lakes unless absolutely necessary.

*Road Work*

There is currently a paving crew at the end of Fowler Street by the Veteran’s Memorial Park. They are paving a parking lot and are blocking both lanes of traffic at this time. Try to avoid the area for the time being. The less traffic the quicker it gets done.

Old Slag Update*
This is a very minor update about the status of Old Slag Rd. in Vonore; City officials have met with engineers and the site has been surveyed and the repair contract will be up for bid soon. I have also been informed that the Mayor and the Aldermen have decided to go with the concrete culvert which is the more expensive option but I have been informed by the Street Dept. this will be the most logical and safe option due to the structural integrity of the concrete you will never have to worry about the road sinking in (in that particular spot anyway) ever again. That is all the information I have now check us out later for more updates.

For those who haven’t heard about the status of Old Slag RD. After some heavy rain, water had backed up on the side of the road leading to some of the road caving in. By the time Vonore Street Department had arrived the whole road had fallen in and water was rushing across. After some time the water carved out a massive hole across the street about 20 feet across and 15-16 feet deep. After the water had finally dropped the street department had noticed that the tile that was supposed to be under the road had caved in causing a dam effect on the water which the Street Department deemed to be the cause. They had also noticed an exposed pipe they recognize it was a water line owned by TASS so they call immediately to see if it will become a problem in the future TASS officials arrive and solve the problem by putting in a shut off valve this will prevent anyone from losing water if the pipe decides to give. After this Vonore Street Department shuts down the road both ways. (On the side heading toward 72 West right after Legacy Shores entrance. Then coming from 72 West it was shut down right past Evans St.) Vonore is still waiting for the specifications from engineers and the time on the wait for that is unknown at this time. After the specs from engineers are given Vonore will then bid the job to a contractor but that could be weeks or months but we will keep you posted.

Earlier today March 11,2020 there was a tragic accident at the intersection of Highway 360 and Highway 411. The accident involved two vehicles: a black Toyota Tacoma and a red Ford F-350 dump truck. Tragically both occupants of the Toyota were killed in the accident after an explosion. Before the explosion good samaritans tried to extract the driver of the vehicle the efforts were unfortunately unsuccessful. The driver of the F-350 came out of the accident unscathed. The identity of the occupants of the Toyota are to stay confidential until the family has identified the bodies. Our prayers go out to the family.
