I can’t even begin to describe the magic from yesterday!!! I had the huge honor to have Josh back here on bass and two of the latest VOX Studios session musicians Tim (on trumpet) and Mark (on keys)! Welcome guys so glad to work with you!

Everything about yesterday was PHENOMENAL!!! The sounds we were getting were incredible, Josh gave the track so much vibe and backbone, mark danced on the keys and just gave the whole track that sparkle and Tim….. Tim glued the entire track together with one of the best trumpet performances I’ve heard. Just incredible.

I’ve been jamming out to it all day and CANT WAIT to have Nito back in here to continue working on this EP. I think this sound will flip the hip hop scene on its head.

Wow what a very special night for myself and 😊 we had the pleasure of getting the great to come to the studio to record my first ever pedal steel and it couldn’t have gone better! What a brilliant player he is! So incredibly nice and wonderful to work with and it felt effortless. I could rant and rave about his performance but I will simply say that within an hour he completely blew us all out of the water by not only nailing the ideas we had but giving us sounds that totally elevated the song.

If you’re a producer in the area, engineer or anyone looking for a truly gifted pedal steel player. I highly recommend you save yourself a lot of time and headache and just get the best. Seriously thank you so much brother for not only helping me but really making Tristan happy.

My favorite part of my job is seeing the happiness on my artists faces when they’re so excited for their music! Tristan you wrote a seriously bad ass song and I’m so excited to keep working on it!!!

(For those who want to know) I used a U87 on his cabinet about 7” away from it and slightly off center from the speaker cone. I also used a 414 above his pedal steel to pick up the performance of the pedals being pressed and the small sounds of his slide and fingers moving. I love capturing little things like. What I call ear candy. And it puts the listener in the room ☺️

I had an INCREDIBLE weekend with and so much great music coming out of Virginia Beach! And holy cow Viridian was so awesome! So many times yesterday I yelled out loud “NO WAY!!!” 😂 their bass player was just unbelievable and their singer has such a brilliant voice. So powerful. Can’t wait for everyone to hear it! It’s days like this weekend I feel lucky to be able to do my passion and dream.

What an awesome weekend filled with music and voice acting! Justin can back this Saturday to continue working on his album (which is sounding awesome) and we got to experiment! He wanted an old kind of radio sound so what I cooked up was him singing into my old Shure green bullet, plugged into the orange with it overdriven and some highs cut out! We weren’t expecting to get that good of a result but holy hell! I think it’s my new fun favorite! 😊

It’s always a joy to have an artist get so excited about there music. And I’m so happy to be able to help!

What a PHENOMENAL Sunday with Justin! Just came to the studio on Friday, loved it and decided to book again on Sunday and as well as next week. And let me tell you what a dream it was to work with him. We were able to record acoustic guitar, piano and acoustic bass on 11 tracks! Setting us up for a couple great future days of vocals. Such a nice guy and really talented musician. Thank you Justin for being part of the VOX family!

Looking back at the photos and videos of building the studio. It’s just wild. It was such brutal work but I loved every second of it. The late nights. Doing demo in between and after my jobs. The blood sweat and tears couldn’t have been more worth it.

This is some pictures of the live room. From the day I took over to where it’s at now. And we’re not done yet!!! I look forward to now being able to refine and add to the room so that they are acoustically perfect. I love building things and working with my hands and it gives me huge pride to see the smiles on my artists faces when they come in and see everything. HERES TO THE FUTURE!!!

MAN LET ME TELL YOU! There is no greater feeling when you finally get the drum sound that’s in your head recorded. Also please excuse my playing. I’m learning and didn’t have a good drummer in here. 😂😂😂 I’ve taken the last few days to just run a TON of experiments on my drums to find the sound I’ve always wanted. And I finally nailed it. Changed the Tom heads to the @evansdrumheads EC2S and really took my time fine tuning the drums in total. This is 💯 just the sound of my drums and the room. I’m not a fan of triggers and this is (for the most part) raw aside from general cleanup EQ and getting the right levels. I also tried a bunch of mic techniques and found putting the a mic on the batter side of the kick as well as my other two mics gives the kick a real 3D sound. Also I put a room mic facing the back wall to pick up reflections extended my room a bit more and provided more life.
