Chris Randolph gives the first-place trophy a kiss as Tim Ownbey looks on after the Hornets' 65-46 victory over Quapaw in the championship game of Vinita's tournament in December 1984. It was the Hornets' first regular season tournament title in six years. Randolph and Rick Reel each scored 18 points, with David Johnson adding 14 and Danny Brown nine. “We've got a little depth and we just need to keep working and trying to improve,” said coach Jimmie Sooter. “Boy, I'm real pleased – 4-0. What else can you say?”
