Tama Press

Tama Press letterpress and relief printed paper products, handmade books, custom work and more! Welcome to Tama Press and thank you so much for visiting!

I love making things by hand - I've done it since I was a little kid (my parents have the videos to prove it!) I especially enjoy creating things people will use on a day to day basis, such as note cards and books. While studying in college, I was introduced to the worlds of printmaking and book arts. The organized process of printmaking – from designing and hand carving blocks to proofing and pri

nting the final pieces – is a challenging and fulfilling experience for me. Patience and my fervent attention to detail attracted me to printing. Time, effort, and care put into each print are reflected in the uncompromising quality of this hands-on art form. In addition to linoleum block relief printing, I also enjoy letterpress printing! I'm thrilled with the quality and beauty of this type of printing - the impression of a letterpress printed image gives depth and a luxurious feel to the finished pieces. While e-mail and e-books are extremely convenient, I still love the writing in a journal and receiving hand written letters in the mail. I learned to make books from start to finish - cutting book board, choosing book cloth and decorative paper, sewing pages, and attaching covers. I maintain a strong connection to my love of Japan through my handmade books, many of which have a traditional Japanese binding. The Japanese ceramic artist I studied under focused on the beauty of a perfectly crafted, yet useful object. I strive to demonstrate that an object used every day, such as a book, can be elevated to a higher level of beauty and appreciation through the experienced touch of an artist.

Inktober Day 9 -

I learned to train dogs for a little while and I adored the Great Danes that would come for classes. They were the sweetest dogs and so wonderfully huge!

Inktober Day 7 -

As I was looking at reference ideas for today’s prompt, I learned some weird things about starfish:

- they don’t have a 🧠 brain or 🩸 blood
- they have 👀 eyes on the ends of their 💪 arms
- their arms regenerate
- they have tons of tiny little 🦶feet to move across surfaces

I enjoyed today’s drawing with all of the patterns.

Inktober Day 6 -

One of the first styles of bookbinding I learned was Japanese stab binding - where you pierce through the entire book and sew through those holes, usually in a decorative pattern.

Inktober Day 5 -

When we lived in England, there were these adorable little deer called deer. They are tiny little guys, maybe a foot and a half tall and about the size of a dog - for a while I thought they were just baby deer.

Inktober Day 2 -

This is my second attempt at this prompt - my first was based on the idea of a car weaving through traffic on the highway but it wasn’t happy with the result.

Can anyone guess this type of weaving?

✨ Tomorrow’s the day! ✨

⏳ 2 days to go!

Tiny details. Bright colors. Patterns to love.

Every piece in this show started with one small mark that grew into a story.
