Parts day in the shop… cutting disk for my signature checkerboard grips. These are walnut and cherry. Sometimes you just have to stop and replenish the inventory to keep things moving forward…

This 9' 10wt graphite is now fishing the Goodnews River in Alaska! Complete with my checkered fighting butt and matching grip using padauk and cherry and Freestone cork. Fitted with titanium anodized Crecoil stripping guides and Recoil snake guides to hold up against use in saltwater environments. This rod turned out solid and look forward to seeing some of the fish it lands!

Perfect for small streams as well are most rivers in the area this 4 piece rod has great backbone when needed. A black PVD finished Crecoil stripping guide followed by black PVD finished Recoil single foot guides down the run. The reel seat is a up locking with a figured maple burl wood insert!!! Our dark cork will compliment the elm burl for the grip with ebony and walnut checkering between ebony and maple spacers. Comes in a rod sack and aluminum rod tube. This is one sharp looking rod! On The Bench we have a nice 3wt in natural graphite color with a agate stone stripping guide with grey and blue wraps. Thinking of finishing this rod off with our dark cork for the grip and stabilized Japanese elm burl for the reel seat! One of my most recent rod cases just before it traveled to the west coast to live with its unsuspecting owner! Fiddle back ambrosia maple with burl walnut end caps. Walnut herringbone inlay at the opening along with a dual toned leather sling. And of course what you cannot see is the aromatic cedar rod carriage inside. I could have hung this case in my shop to take a look at everyday and the spectacular figure and grain that covered all sides.

The blank left in a natural (raw) color with black wraps and black and white variegated accent wraps! This rod kicks off the features with a agate stone stripper guide and down the blank Eco Chrome snake guides to the tip! A burl walnut reel seat with our signature checkered grip of walnut and cherry with continuous cork to give a very comfortable grip. The grip and reel seat are internally tapered to match the taper of the rod blank for 100% contact for improved transmission to your hand of felt contact down the line. I am excited to announce that the McKay Rod Case was chosen as a finalist in the Made in NC Awards by Our State Magazine.
This particular one is made with sapele for the case with figured walnut endcaps. A Walnut herringbone inlay where the case separates to reveal the rod nestled in a suede-tex lined cedar carriage. Every time I open the case the wonderful aroma is a pleasant greeting! Also, The Flowing Table by Fleming Woodcraft was selected as well!
