President-elect Donald Trump’s sentencing is set for January 10th, just days before his return to the White House on January 20th. However, the judge assured he would not face jail time.
Judge Merchan indicated he would impose a conditional discharge, which would dismiss the case if Trump avoids rearrest. Prosecutors acknowledged the need for accommodations due to Trump’s presidency but insisted the conviction stand.
Trump was convicted in May on 34 counts of falsifying business records tied to a 2016 hush money payment to Stormy Daniels. He denies the allegations, calling the story false and insisting he did nothing wrong.
