I've debated posting this for almost two months... I'm not one that likes asking for help, but I am also one that will swallow pride when it's necessary.

In April, I took my dad to urgent care because his vision was having problems. The whirlwind of the next became more than we could have expected. Over the next week (and what happened that brought him in) turned out to be two strokes, an open heart surgery, and vision loss to where he is unable to drive for an uncertain length of time.

The beginning was scary, as at that time he could barely see anything and cognitively was in and out of making sense. Fortunately, his cognition is getting stronger, and vision is gradually improving. We've been told that it takes 9-12 months, and we're now over 4 months in... Which is why I am posting this.

From learning how to set his apartment up for vision impairment (scratchy velcro on the microwave and other appliances for tactile guidance) to flash cards helping him read again, we've been working hard to get him as close to his normal as we can. For those that have known him, you'll be happy to know that despite all of the other struggles, his personality is still there and strong as ever! His hospital staff worked hard taking care of him based on how kind he was to them, including his style of humor that kept them smiling and rooting him on.

I've struggled whether to just fight behind the scenes or follow through creating this. I know that this is the best thing for him so that I can continue focusing on helping his recovery as hands on as I've been able to.

Thank you for your time reading, and any help is appreciated.

Video for the new single "Empty" from All But Denied featuring Pooya Entezari is official on YouTube! We posted it to the FB feed, but for those that don't want to have to go searching to find it, it's now easier!

For those that might be going through a hard time right now, remember this.

Life isn't supposed to be easy. The hardships are where we build character and grow. Some are harder than others, but some of the best people have come out of the worst situations. In Japanese culture, Kintsugi is an art where they fix pottery with gold and find broken things often have more character. People are like this too.

We choose whether we get back up. We choose what defines us. If success and failure are opposite sides of a pendulum, we can't always create success. But we can choose to fail faster and learn more. It's not easy, but it's not supposed to be. The more you fall down, the more you learn how to stay up.

In the difficulty, life has beautiful moments every day that we don't see unless we are looking. Especially if you are looking for it through a phone. Let your struggles drive you instead of define you. Focusing on what you can't change doesn't help you. Focus on what you can and be patient. Change takes time.

Or sometimes you've had enough and change is this moment. If that is the case, what can you do to move the needle towards making your life better? Even if you have to start small, only you can start.

A friend online recently posted a comment about the fact that some people just want to see you fail. My response helped them, so I thought I'd share in case it can help someone else feeling the same.

Sometimes they don't want you to fail... they just don't want you to do better than them. It reminds them of the things they could be doing with their life. If you succeed, you'll leave them behind. So it's safer keeping you in the box they know instead of you outgrowing them.

Okay, I had to share this. I posted earlier today about AI and music, and the biggest pushback I see is usually that it can't bring emotion like a human. So I did a test with a sense of humor.

I used Suno AI, entered the prompt:

"A song with deep emotion about how Joshua Holland is the music producer you want to go to if you want your passion heard in the r&b genre. I want the vocal to sound as human and emotional as possible."

Not gonna lie. Hilariously, I like it more than I want to admit... ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

r&b soulful intimate song. Listen and make your own with Suno.

Well, it's official! New single coming out May 3rd! I can't even describe how excited I am for this to come out. Last year I created All But Denied for my solo project, but it will also be used for the collaborations I have with friends and artists that don't have their own projects to help bring more high quality songs into the world.

One of my good friends for over 25 years now, Pooya Entezari and I jammed for the first time in forever last year and an idea was born. Both being busy producing music, this took longer than planned with all the plates spinning... but listening back to this song reminds me why I started playing in the first place. Things he did inspired me and vice versa, and I'm exceptionally proud of this. Here is the presave link for when it comes out on streaming platforms, but knowing us, we'll likely be releasing teasers prior. Maybe even the music video...

Here's to over 25 years of friendship and producing music. I hope you enjoy it as I have.

If there is one thing we have learned.
It's the beauty of restore points and completely saying "No Thank You" to an "update" that makes things twice as hard to work with. ๐Ÿ˜‚

What are your feelings on system updates?
Has there been a situation where it actually got worse and you had to rely on either Macs (Time Machine) or Windows (System Restore Point)?

Have you heard about Sora Ai?
If not, you are going to want to check this out.

Sora Ai is going to be very shortly making some waves in the ai world as well as in the creative space when it comes to animations and potentially in the advertisement world.

Just think about it, when you see something like Western films and scenes straight from an action film automated of this quality from AI, it gets sort of scary.

Makes you sort of wonder how far down the rabbit hole we are going to go down shortly when it comes to stuff like this. ESPECIALLY, when it comes music videos!

Is Sora going to be next greatest tool for content creators?
Let me know in the comments if you are excited or terrified of this new ai tool!

Improvising is key in this business! ๐Ÿ”‘

Especially when green screen footage is needed and you have to make do with the room you have in the studio.
I'm looking forward to seeing what clips get used.
Especially the part where decided to play the guitar behind his head. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

Was there any time as an artist and/or band where you had to make due with what you had, and you had to experiment to make it work?

Let me know in the comments your favorite story of you thinking outside the box! ๐Ÿ“ฆ โฌ‡๏ธ

Recording Tips That Get Overlooked

Looking back on my early days as a hip hop artist and general musician entering the studio for the first time, there are a few key things I wish someone had given me some clarity on so I would have had a easier and less costly experience.

Tip 1: Get organized from the start. Have a clear system to track file versions and back up everything properly. Solid work habits prevent lost recordings and wasted time. Also, keep in mind that producers and engineers love keeping things clean and ready to go. The easier you make their job, the smoother the process.

Tip 2: Practice, practice, practice. Studio time is expensive, so nail your parts quickly. Don't burn money re-recording mistakes that couldโ€™ve been avoided. This is more times often than not where comfortably becons the "this is good enough" mindset. When you feel you got your part down, do it again.

Tip 3: Document the process, especially your vocals. It provides invaluable insight for improving as an artist. Capture content for your social channels, too! Don't be paying hundreds of thousands of dollars and then going to your socials with a nada to show.
Fans eat that stuff up, and the more you show your process, the more things you can take away to be successful!

That first studio experience is an important milestone. Go in focused, prepared, and ready to learn. The knowledge you gain will make future recording sessions that much better. It's always what you put in that will dictate how far it goes.

What advice do you have for musicians recording for the first time? Share your top tips below to help fellow artists!

Throwback time. ๐Ÿ˜€

Who remembers those early days of plunking out "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on the piano as a kid? The excitement of playing your first scale or finally nailing that tricky part in "Fรผr Elise". Those monumental moments when it felt like the possibilities were endless.

Share your stories of those early piano student days! What songs do you remember learning first?

Which is more important: Lyrics or Melody?

Do profound lyrics that speak to the human experience move you more? Or is an infectious melody that you find yourself subconsciously singing throughout the day more vital to a song's success?

Tell us in the comments - are you or ?

What song has your favorite combination of both?

Let's Fulfill A Long Wanted Vision

Our client started writing "Last Staredown" years ago and had a distinct vision for it. But then life led them down a different path, putting this creative project on hold. Now, after all this time, they are reigniting that original spark and feeling newly inspired to complete their unfinished song.

It's incredible to see someone rediscover their creativity and take hold of their artistic dreams even after so long. We can't wait to hear their vision brought to life!

Get ready for this piece of his history to be complete! "Last Staredown" is finally getting its moment after all these years - coming your way soon!

Is there a project you have been putting off?
If so, what is the reason you haven't finished it?

Which songs would you like to hear him do?
Through the fire and flames, perhaps? ๐Ÿ˜…

I hope everyone had a safe and fun new years!

Don't mind me, just using weird close up shots to disguise our last-minute video capturing. ๐Ÿคซ

People want quality guitar content, not the fumbling hit an misses. But learning songs involves mistakes, so here's what it actually looks like. Facebook ain't all impeccable playing and moody stares, you know. Sometimes, it's just a dude with a camera spending some time trying to find a decent camera angleโ€ฆ.or trying to be annoying while the producer practices. ๐Ÿ˜‚
In our case, it's usually both.

This new song from is really coming together nicely! We even have making an appearance on it! ๐Ÿ˜€

We always love the storytelling this band delivers.
