A Camas-Washougal fire battalion chief has been arrested for the murder of his wife.

Kevin West, of Washougal, was arrested Friday and charged with 1st-degree murder after the Clark County medical examiner ruled this week that the Jan. 8, 2024 death of 48-year-old Marcy West was the result of a homicide.

Camas teachers are hitting the picket lines for a second day.

The educators are striking for guaranteed maximum classroom sizes; a cost-of-living salary increase that keeps pace with local inflation; and equitable funding for music, library, physical education and health programs.

The Camas School Board Monday night approved a resolution allowing the school district to take legal action to end the strike.

Teachers' union members have authorized a potential strike if the two sides cannot reach a tentative agreement before Monday, Aug. 28 -- the scheduled first day of school in Camas.

BREAKING: Preliminary election results show the Washougal School District's replacement levies — which help fund athletics, arts, technology and more — are failing, with 54% voting "no"

The majority of voters have rejected the Washougal School District’s (WSD) request for two replacement levies, according to early election returns. As of Tuesday, Feb. 14, with 40,871 ballots counted countywide and an estimated 17,000 ballots remaining, Proposition 10, the WSD’s replacement educational programs and operations (EPO) levy, had received 1,970 “no” votes (53.3%) and 1,659 “yes” votes (45.7%), while Proposition 11, the WSD’s replacement capital facilities and technology levy, had received 1,882 “no” votes (53.6%) and 1,625 “yes” votes (46.3%).

BREAKING: The Clark County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide in Washougal.

Law enforcement responding to a 911 call Thursday afternoon discovered a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds inside a Washougal home.

The woman, Carol Rossi, 73, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at a hospital. Roberto Rossi, 78, is in critical condition.
