Dori Rattray elected planning group chair

Note: There will be complete report of this action in this week’s paper.

Dori Rattray had urged her planning group colleagues to retain the incumbent chairwoman for her leadership skills and experience.

But Monday night, after two contentious rounds of voting, Rattray herself was elected a compromise chairwoman of the Valley Center Community Planning Group. She replaces Delores Chavez-Harmes, who had wielded the gavel since 2018—and who Rattray had supported for chairman.

In the first round of voting, the group deadlocked 7-7-1 (with Matt Matthews abstaining) between Mrs. Chavez-Harmes and Steve Hutchinson, who some of the members seated in January had supported. With Matthews refusing to change his vote, a second round of nominations and voting followed.

In this round, Rattray was added to the nominees, and was elected with nine votes. She will pick up the gavel at the March meeting.
