According to the Illinois State Geological Survey, Illinois averages about five earthquakes a year, mainly in southern Illinois. Many of those on record in the state have small magnitudes of 2 to 4, which do not cause damage but are felt over large areas. No earthquakes have been larger than a magnitude (amount of energy released) of 5.5.

At least three earthquakes have taken place in Illinois in the past two months.

"The sticker tag can be activated in minutes," says Cassaundra Rouse, Executive Director of the Illinois Tollway about the new system which allows multiple sticker tags and doesn't require a balance to be maintained. The tag will be good for Illinois and 12 other states in 2024.

Starting next year, you won’t be able to buy new transponders for the I-Pass. Instead, tollgates will rely on scanning a sticker.
