It’s official! Today I signed a three-year contract to be a M-F evening anchor at WFXR (Fox affiliate) in Roanoke, Va. It’s market 70 of 212. For comparison, Panama City was/is market 150. I start July 15th. I’m excited and can’t wait to tell meaninful stories to the viewers of Southwest Virginia.

Hi, I'm with Friendship Baptist in Owasso Oklahoma.. Our Youth are in Panama City this week for Youth Camp. They will be at the Express Lane Gas; 8930 N Lagoon Drive. on Wednesday to buy gas down .50cents a gallon for area residents for 4 hours. Could you share?

Editing my last Faces & Places of the Panhandle for WJHG. Very sad. I’ve enjoyed putting these stories together for you and they’ve won some awards. At times, I wish this wouldn’t end but I know it must…for “it is written”. That’s from one of my favorite movies Slumdog Millionaire. Btw, this story is about a balloon artist who makes these amazing balloon arrangements. Check it out tomorrow night (Thu.) at 10 p.m.

WJHG picked up 16 awards Saturday evening at the Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists awards ceremony. We won Station of the Year for our market size and I won first place in the Best Feature - Cultural & Historical category. My story on how Panama City got its name was the piece that won. Congrats to all my colleagues for another successful night at the FABJ awards.

Spent the weekend in Cleveland with one of my best friends Kelly Baumgarten, who used to report at NewsChannel 7. Because I flew I have to stay away from the studio for 7 days so you won’t see me on air this week. I am working from home though doing behind the scenes stuff. See you next Monday.

Today marks the second longest tenured job I've ever had at 6 years, 9 months and 7 days. My first F/T job not long out of H.S. lasted almost 19 years. I doubt I'll beat that mark. That was at the Orange County Register newspaper in Southern California. Before today, my second longest job was at the Honolulu Advertiser newspaper in Hawaii. Just a random bit of info for you on this Friday. I'll see you at 5p/6p/10p.

Shout out to my former co-workers in Des Moines who attended Drake University. I’m representing today (even tho I attended Iowa State when I lived there) by honoring the #25 Drake men’s basketball team who is 17-0 so far this season.

When I tell people what I do many respond by saying they don't watch the news. "Too depressing" is what I hear 90+% of the time. I'd like to say we at NC7 often highlight uplifting stories, inspiring stories, stories of neighbors helping neighbors, and stories that leave a smile on your face more often than other stations do. Yes, we do have to cover shootings, fires, politics, etc. but I like our balance. What do you think? Anyway, I want to leave you on this Friday with a story that aired yesterday in our weekly Faces & Places of the Panhandle segment about a local kindergartner who is a national champion go-kart racer. I love this series because we tell human interest stories that often leave people with a good taste in their mouth, or so we're told. Enjoy.
