✨ CURIOUS cover reveal is here 👀 we are very pleased to announce our latest edition of CURIOUS Magazine, and the final issue of our series on Empathy - “Empathy + Community with cover illustration by Frankie 🖤

We’ve been on a hiatus for publishing the magazine, and as some of you know, it has been a very tough last quarter for our team. Between the and our BIPOC Publishing fund projects, we’ve been working to prioritize coming back to our roots, where it all started at Curious. When we started the magazine five years ago it was with a pie in the sky dream of making art accessible and amplifying stories from artists here in the IE. We’ve had so many amazing collaborations which have brought the company into spaces beyond the IE and helped spread our work further than we could imagine. We are primarily a volunteer run and fiscally sponsored by , a non profit organization. Although we’ve been fortunate to be awarded grant funding occasionally, it is a drop in the bucket of covering the rising printing costs and paying artists a fair wage. I want to take this moment to thank our wonderful supportive community and all of the artists we have published so far for building this project with us through the past five years. I ask for grace as we navigate our projects going into 2024 - were renovating a space at which will host a riso studio early next year. The bodega is open limited hours this Winter, but is available any time by appointment. Sam has been wonderful at volunteering his free time to keep it open. Please drop us a line if you want to collaborate. We are eager to invorgate new life into the project and continue to bring you kick ass programs.

We are devastated by the loss of our champion, John Machado on 10/21/23 🕊️

John was the founder of and asked to offer fiscal sponsorship to Curious Publishing in its infancy, and served as its his sponsored project. Alongside us he championed our friend’s start up , , Curated Chronicles, , , and so many more.

If you were ever paid by us on a project, John Machado was the one who assisted us and often time personally funded projects we lead. He donated his time to advocate for our work and the work of so many marginalized artists with an emphasis on the Inland Empire. So few were as honest as he was in a time where you couldn’t trust many people in power. He gave every last day he had to helping us all.

It is so hard to believe he will no long be at our community events.

Our heart is with his beautiful and loving wife and his family who are devastated at the loss of such a wonderful soul.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, to please send donation to in his honor.

Curious Publishing presents the 2nd Packing House Zine Fest Printed Ephemera Showcase on Sunday, October 2023 from 12 PM - 6 PM at the Claremont Packing House Atrium located at 532 West First Street, Claremont, CA 91711.

The Packing House Zine Fest will feature artist exhibitors whose practice emphasizes the art of print in formats such as zines, art books, risograph, screen printing, block printing, and cyanotype. This event is free and open to the public and will include artist talks and workshops throughout the day hosted at The Claremont Forum and Curious Publishing’s Art & Bodega.

Repost: my second book is now OFFICIALLY OUT - “All Out of Confessions“ is a collection of journal entries, film photography, and drawings from 2020 to 2023, and is a reflection on ideas of displacement, tenderness, and belonging in relation to finding one’s shape within the diaspora. The journal entries draw on memory and the archiving of moments, days, weeks, years, people, conversations and emotions as a means to make sense of it all.

At this inaugural event, we will share resources, tips, and provide valuable insight into self-publishing techniques for marginalized artists. All skill and interest levels are invited to discuss self-publishing in an open forum and gain access to CURIOUS PUBLISHING staff as we discuss upcoming funding opportunities. We believe that small press is an invaluable resource in driving forward inclusivity in the arts, and we’re excited to build a safe space for open forum discussion with you all.

All funds go directly to the BIPOC + Q***R PUBLISHING FUND, established to provide grant funding to print artists residing throughout Southern California.

This Saturday June 24th from 4-6:30pm, we are hosting a workshop showcasing Apocalyptic Theatre with artist Collrane . Join us at the Claremont Forum Bookshop for an evening dedicated to learning about the tarot system through interpreting art and writing. Collrane will give an overview of Apocalyptic Theatre’s structure as a deck and research project. There will also be a time for experimenting with reading the tarot for yourself. See you soon!

Our Ethos

Curious Publishing was created to showcase artists, poets, musicians, photographers, foodies, and the overall budding creative community in California. In addition to providing publishing services to artists, writers, and creators throughout Southern California, each quarter, Curious Publishing develops a new issue of Curious Magazine which revolves around a central theme, and features up to 15 up and coming artists who reside in Southern California. This professionally designed publication provides a platform for artists to showcase their work, as well as an opportunity to showcase their work publicly and sell their work at the quarterly release events. Each release event raises over funds which goes directly toward Curious Publishing’s mission.
