William Piroyan member of the Assyrian Literature Committee 1960, Co-Founder of Assyrian Universal Alliance April 1968, an academic, activist & strategic thinker of our nation. Dear Honorable Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani,
On behalf of Assyrians worldwide, I would like to congratulate you on your election as the Prime
Minister of the Republic of Iraq.
Iraq is the cradle of civilization and homeland to Assyrians, the most indigenous people of Iraq. We
request that your administration give attention to the conditions of Assyrians in Iraq and formally
recognize them as Indigenous People of Iraq. We ask that, under your leadership, the government of Iraq
establishes a particular Cabinet Department to oversee their condition and protect the Assyrian,
Babylonian and Sumerian archeological sites in Iraq so future generations may revere the greatness of
Iraq.
Formally recognizing the Assyrian Martyrs Day, commemorated by Assyrians worldwide on August 7,
will open the door to awareness of the atrocities committed against all Iraqis, including the Arabs, Kurds,
Turkmans, and Assyrians. We request that the government of Iraq opens the doors of Iraq to all Assyrians
worldwide by awarding them the right of return and granting Iraqi citizenship to all Assyrians from
around the world. All of this will require constitutional recognition of the Assyrians as Indigenous People
of Iraq, amending the current laws and updating Iraq’s educational texts and material.
On behalf of Assyrians from around the world, we wish you success in your responsibility to build a
better Iraq for all the Iraqi people.

Dear President Rasid,
On behalf of Assyrians worldwide I am delighted to extend my congratulations on your election as President of
the Republic of Iraq. We wish you success in your presidency and pray that you lead a peaceful and stable Iraq.
Like other Iraqi citizens, Assyrians have faced hardship, forced displacement, and mass migration. Today, Iraqi
Assyrians have no formal constitutional recognition as Iraq’s most indigenous citizens, and their population has
dwindled significantly due to what has befallen Iraq in recent years. To safeguard the national tapestry of the
country, the government of Iraq must pay special attention to the needs of its indigenous Assyrians.
Therefore, the Assyrian people from around the world request the following from the Republic of Iraq and your
honorable office:
1. Formally acknowledge the atrocities committed against the Assyrian people by recognizing August 7 as
the Assyrian Martyrs Day.
2. Formally recognize Assyrians as Iraq's most indigenous people, implementing supporting constitutional
addendum.
3. Establish a dedicated department within the Executive Branch and Cabinet of the government of Iraq to
concentrate on the affairs of the Assyrian people in Iraq and in the diaspora.
4. Implement legislation and pass laws that recognize all Assyrians in the diaspora as citizens of the
Republic of Iraq, with the right to return to their ancestral homeland of Iraq.
5. Allocate funds necessary to build a museum and community center to commemorate the Assyrians
massacred in Simele, Iraq.
6. Allow the Assyrian Iraqis to elect their representatives in the Iraqi Parliament by limiting voting
rights for such representation to only Assyrian Iraqis and without pressure from other political parties.
The same voting rights for Assyrians should apply to the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (IKR) parliament and
Its affiliates.
7. Establish a committee comprised of Iraqi Assyrians to oversee the implementation of the
aforementioned requests. The committee shall operate under the supervision of the Iraqi Prime Minister
to achieve the items discussed earlier and to establish the Department of Assyrian Affairs within Iraq's
Executive Branch to pass and implement laws passed by the Iraqi Parliament in the preservation and
commemoration of the Assyrian people.
We hope that your Excellency will consider the issues these requests highlight and address them on behalf of the
Assyrian citizens of the Republic of Iraq. We are prepared to discuss these issues with you should you require
further information and details about them.

Assyrian Universal Alliance Americas Chapter is pleased to announce the election of Ms. Hali Aziz as the. new chairwoman of Assyrian Universal Alliance - Los Angeles Branch. Miss Aziz has been the Vice Chair of the Branch for the last 4 years. Hali was elected by a unanimous vote during Assyrian Universal Alliance - Los Angeles Branch meeting on 8/21/2022.
Ms. Aziz is highly educated having worked professionally as an engineer for the City of Calabasas for 8 years.
While working for the city, she pursued a law degree receiving her Juries Doctorate in 2020 and beginning her
law career.
Assyrian Universal Alliance Americas Chapter is excited about the positive contributions that Ms. Aziz will continue to make to the Assyrian Community in Los Angeles and beyond.

On December 23, 1994, the UN General Assembly decided that the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People should be observed on August 9 annually during the International Decade of the World’s Indigenous People.
