Ever seeking to better understand myself. Consistent practice with via helps to illuminate my path. đ
Completing the has been a bucket list item for about 20 years when I first moved to Chicago and witnessed the sheer scope of it firsthand. So much energyâ I wanted to be part of it. Iâm elated that my first was in my second city.
Honestly, I had given up the idea until about 18 months ago when my son, Wynn Liam was born. His birth reignited a passion for endurance and longevity in me that motivated me to signup.
When I started running at the beginning of the year, I could barely run 3 miles. To have transformed my body these past 9 months in order to accomplish this goal took more sacrifice than I realized it would.
And it took a lot more time and resources than Lindsay had expected it would. I am grateful to her for her patience and understanding. And for surprising me at mile 18 with our sonâ it moved me to tears and gave me life to finish the run.
I am honored to have run alongside some incredible athletes and most generous humans on Team NoStigmas. Together, we have raised almost $30,000 to educate the public about and train advocates who are fighting stigmas and saving lives in their local communities. Thank you for your commitment, fortitude and perseverance as you have completed your own marathon journeys. đ
To all of my training partners, coaches (even those Iâve not met, like & ), thank you for your advice, patience and slowing your pace so that I can keep up. To my cheerleaders (both virtual & on the streets of Chicago), youâve helped me more than you know.
On the other side of 26.2, despite the blisters and chafing, pain from a partially torn meniscus, and with the tragic loss of my headphones + coaching program at mile 21, I am incredibly proud of this accomplishment.
I am now one of a million to have finished the Chicago Marathon. I have joined the one percenters to have run a marathon.
Now, into the ice bath and long-awaited Mai Tai with an umbrella. đč
Joining the trend with my ACTUAL 90âs yearbook photo â ïž
I look at this photo and donât remember much of this time, just a general feeling of numbness.
Not many people knew at the time that I was actually super depressed and having nightly panic attacks back then.
Mental illness sometimes feels easier to hide than to face. But that led to suicidal thoughts for me.
Fortunately, my mom recognized what I was going through and saved my life by taking me to the doctor.
But it was a long journey to stability and even longer to thriving.
Iâm grateful to have this photo as a reminder that someone can seem okay from the outside, but you may never fully know whatâs going on inside.

Zero-tolerance messaging tuned out by most teenagers.
A new study from researchers at the University of British Columbia and University of Calgary found that when it comes to substance use, a harm reduction message resonated the most with teens, instead of the typical âdonât do drugsâ talk.

Some kind words about 5 Bridges Wellness đ
Repost from (Based on "Life hacks I know at 30 I wish I knew at 20" by ) via
Is it possible to both feel better and not give up what you love?
The #1 lesson Iâve learned as a dad and social impact business leader so farâŠ
đ Modeling ideal behaviors is 1000x more effective than "telling" ideal behaviors. đ
The days of getting away with âdo as I say, not as I doâ are over. Not only is that approach ineffective, the current culture and newer generations donât buy it and wonât stand for it.
If you want to affect change or even just be taken seriously as a leader, you have to walk the walk and and be a living example of what you promote.
Iâve learned this the hard way. No, Iâm not perfect at it, but my daily life looks pretty darn close to what I show you here.
And if this kid from the trailer park can overcome childhood trauma, poverty, ADHD, rage, depression & anxiety to create a positive impact, I believe that you can too.
Ready to stop WISHING that youâre the leader, partner, parent, mentor or advocate that you want to be and actual BECOME the best version of yourself?
âCause hereâs the truth: betting on âsomedayâ will only leave you with regrets in the end. And shaming yourself for not being there now only leads to more of the same.
Today is the only day that you have and you GET TO DECIDE what you do with your present circumstances.
The ability to model ideal behaviors begins with having a solid foundation of wellness. Designing a self-care plan that actually WORKS for your actual life is your first step.
provides the simple framework for you to customize your Wellness MAP along with the the tools and education to make it happen for you⊠for real this time.
DM me with MAP and Iâll share my #1 resource for designing a custom life strategy to guide you to becoming the stressed-less, cycle-breaking, wellness-having best version of yourself. đ

So what do you do when you're in a slump? In this quick tactical episode, Jacob Moore delivers practical tools for overcoming slowdowns and getting right back where you need to be. What youâll learn from this episode:
- Maximize your flow states by capturing ideas
- Extract critical information to preserve for later
- Create systems that work for you when you can't
These 3 steps can be a game-changer when you're in a creative downturn. Remember not to be too hard on yourself, and rest in the hard work you've done already.

"To have a period of time where you have less inspiration, less passion, less ideas, less energy is perfectly normal. A lot of times it syncs up with seasons or with hormones, or with life events. And that's okay. Take care of yourself and do what you can. Feel confident knowing that you've done the work already."

My mom with Wynn + my nieces & nephews
Wynn is so fortunate to have a mama who is self-aware, has done the tough work and understands how to create balance between nurturing and independence. He will grow up with zero doubts that he is fully loved and accepted for who he is without reservation. What a gift our son has received to have a living model of emotional validation, secure attachment and the love language of boundary-setting. Iâm grateful for your leadership . Happy Motherâs Day!
Also, thanks for obliging my photo dump. I think this really encapsulates this mom-son relationship. đ
Do you feel like ADHD symptoms are holding you back from accomplishing your goals? Having ADHD can be frustrating, especially when growing up in an environment where the diagnosis is misunderstood. But it doesn't have to be like that.
In this episode, Jacob Moore shares 4 practical strategies from lived experience, and shows how ADHD can go from your greatest frustration, to your most valuable super-power.
What you'll learn in this episode:
How to break down big goals into smaller, manageable tasks
Utilize the Pomodoro timer
Timeboxing strategy
The benefits of joining a virtual co-working space
đĄ Friendly reminder...REST is not optional. It's essential for wellness. REST is integral to our ability to function and an essential time for our brains to regulate all of those important chemicals (adenosine, dopamine, acetylcholine, etc.) that keep our brain balanced and our anxiety in check. In addition, getting enough sleep helps control stress and the release of cortisol, which affects not only stress management but also our weight management and the way we age.
"Energy flows from intention." When we focus on channeling positive energy towards others, we tend to be less focused on our own issues and problems. GIVE helps elevate us out of the petty, menial and selfish tendencies we sometimes have. The more we focus on the needs of others, the more we understand how good our lives really are. Maintaining the intention of serving others will keep energy flowing in a positive direction. đ§ââïž
IT'S TIME FOR GREATNESS - NOT FOR GREED.
IT'S A TIME FOR IDEALISM - NOT IDEOLOGY.
IT IS A TIME NOT JUST FOR COMPASSIONATE WORDS, BUT COMPASSIONATE ACTION.
âMARIAN WRIGHT EDELMAN
Edit: âThe journey is the destination [unless you donât have a map, because then the journey just becomes about the anxiety of trying to orientate yourself on-the-go in an unknown land and the frustration of having to backtrack 10 times to find a path that actually gets to where you want to go and hopefully you havenât fallen into ravine or run out gas 50 miles short of the nearest gas station or worse yet, become hangry because youâve stumbled into a town where the idea of plant-based is a chefâs salad, because lettuce.]â
There, fixed it.
Itâs the same when it comes to our health. Randomly trying to hit a moving target of wellness is not really going to get you there. You might get it right some of the time, but having a clear goal of wellness, and understanding how that's aligned with your personal values in life is how you're going to find sustainability.
Have a listen for more of this đ

đ Today we celebrate our Anniversary! đ For 16 years, our Founder Jacob Moore and thousands of Allies-in-Action have spoken up against stigma and shown up as peer advocates time and again. And officially as NoStigmas, since 2007, whether in-person or virtually, our network continues to grow and reach those who need a little more hope in their days. We are sincerely thankful for our champions of mental health equity for all. We thank our volunteers, collaborators, partners, donors, cheerleaders, and YOU.
2022 focused heavily on amplifying and lifting up the stories of lived experiences of those affected by mental illness and stigma. The year ahead will be all about mobilizing and empowering boots on the ground to continue stomping out stigma. From dinner table talks with close friends and family, to water cooler chats with colleagues, to sharing your story at your school or community organization, to passing interactions with complete strangers, each and every moment we have is a moment to connect, support, and show up for others.
This year, we are full-steam-ahead focused on reconnection and defeating isolation, knowing that peer support is arguably the #1 way we can ***de. Thank you for being a part of our NoStigmas network and thank you for speaking up against stigmas.

Millions of Americansâespecially those who live in northern climatesânotice that their mood dips in colder months. Health experts believe one key reason for this condition, called seasonal affective disorder, is that less exposure to natural light throws off our circadian rhythms. Getting outdoors during daylight can help reset those rhythms, says Paul Winsper, Under Armourâs VP of Human Performance, Science and Research. Sunlight exposure also increases production of vitamin D, a key component of mood-regulating neurotransmitters like serotonin (and, Winsper points out, critical to a healthy immune system). Add to this the mood-boosting effects of both physical activity and exposure to green space, and cold-weather running can serve as a salve, Dawson saysâan antidote for ânature deficit disorder,â a term coined by author Richard Louv to refer to disconnection from the world around us. In addition, exercising outdoors may also decrease fear and uneasiness; in one large 21-year study, Swedish cross-country skiers were about half as likely to develop anxiety as non-skiers. Believe it or not, cold weather is actually the ideal condition for activities, says Tom Holland, an exercise physiologist, sports performance coach, and author of The Marathon Method. "The colder the weather, the less heat stress on the body, which makes it significantly easier to run," explains Holland. Getting yourself to the gym can be a challenge in itself, and a treadmill at home can get boring â but cold weather activities will never get dull. It's free, convenient, and will help you stay active when you'd rather binge-watch Bridgerton. "We tend to move less and eat more in the colder months," says Holland. Reminder: Burning calories shouldn't be the sole reason you're trying your hand at cold weather activities, and there are plenty of other health benefits that come with getting outside. But if calories are of interest to you, know that chilly temperatures may change a

âIf you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.â â Dalai Lama This episode will teach you how to balance caring while still maintaining professionalism. Here's what you'll learn on this episode: 1. Compassion has a place in the workplace 2. Empathy, Sympathy & Compassion defined 3. Boundaries are key to sustainable compassion Full episode here: https://www.jacobmoore.com/post/compassionate-culture-how-to-care-and-still-be-professional Why is this important? The emotional needs of workers influence their ability to be engaged and productive at work. Empathy in the workplace is positively related to job performance. According to a study by Center for Creative Leadership, âEmpathic emotion as rated from the leaderâs subordinates positively predicts job performance ratings from the leaderâs bossâ Meaning, those managers who were rated as empathetic by subordinates were also rated as high performing by their own boss. Sara Schairer, Founder of Compassion It defines some often confused terms: âEmpathy, sympathy, and compassion are three words that many use interchangeably. Itâs a legitimate mistake, because these words can be confusing. While these words are near cousins, they are not synonymous with one another. Empathy means that you feel what a person is feeling. Sympathy means you can understand what the person is feeling. Compassion is the willingness to relieve the suffering of another.â How do we balance compassion in the workplace? Boundaries: 1. What are the boundaries of the org? 2. What are your boundaries? 3. What are the boundaries of others? Know your role and ask for permission when youâre unsure of the boundaries. #workplacementalhealth #compassionateleadership #compassionatecare #compassionfatigue #impactleader #serviceleaders #leadershipdevelopment #compassionate #5bridges #nostigmas #workplacewellness #workplacewellbeing #workplaceculture #staffwellbeing #
