Streetvibes VOICE OF THE STREET, UNSILENCED

We hope you can come.
16/12/2024

We hope you can come.

Next Friday (Dec. 20, 5:30PM, Washington Park) evening we will gather to call out the names of the many important people in our community who died this year because of homelessness.

Please join us. Everyone is welcome. You can come and speak, you can sing, you can be quiet and listen. Come in any way meaningful to you.

If you know of someone who should be on this honor list, please let us know.

Homelessness is caused by systemic decisions that prioritize the comfort and luxury of a few over the lives of many. Please join us as we not only honor our people who have died, but act to end this systemic injustice and the many traumas it creates.

Tell City Council to amend "Connected Communities"!

78% of Black Cincinnati Households won't be able to afford nearly all of the homes created because of "Connected Communities" if it passes as currently written.

Come and speak tomorrow at City Hall at 1PM (arrive by 12:30 at the latest) to tell the Equitable Growth and Housing Committee to amend "Connected Communities" to require the inclusion of truly affordable housing and prohibition of displacement before they vote.

Go here to send this message in an email to City Council: https://shorturl.at/o6mL0

Here is a breakdown of who and who won't be able to afford "Connected Communities".

Article Spotlight: No Sleep 'Til Washington by Dr. Mark Mussman
"A common misconception about homelessness is that people choose to be homeless, or even that it's a moral failing of the individual. Often people think that it's a moral imperative to address homelessness, simply because it's the right thing to do, or because of their religious beliefs. Over the past few years, I've come to understand that solving homelessness (with safe and affordable housing, livable wages, and housing protections) is a policy choice. It's not the individual who is experiencing homelessness who is the problem, but the policies that have guaranteed that we'd be in this situation today. Governmental policy, deeply rooted in anti-Black racism, creates a societal norm of wage theft and wealth inequality..."
