Featured on the site today is Joseph Bui (.photo) from Houston, TX. Bui uses photography and the power of portraiture to tell the stories of those who grace his camera. He shares his most recent project where that camera is turned on his own life with his parents at the forefront. His project “I Love You. I Miss You. Have A Good Day." is a reflection on the role that aging plays within the family dynamic. Joseph's take follows that of Larry Sultan's "Pictures from Home" where both attempt to freeze time and stop the inevitable through a photograph’s literal significance. A few months ago, our editor Raul Rodriguez curated the online photo exhibit, New Seeds on Float Photo Magazine. From the selection we invited a few national and international artists to share space with us on DRP. Check out our recent interview with Los Angeles photographer, Paloma Dooley. Her work focuses on landscape and the things that interrupt, divide, or cause an irregularity to their natural existence. We spoke about her work from 2018, Edges / Passageways and its significance to divisions and resonance to power structures and their pre-emptive yet empty threats. How do we relate to lines drawn? Is it an absurd notion? When does a Edge become a Passageway? Paloma frames these questions with her investigative and stunning work. She is an active photographer in LA and co-founder of the new project space, Hermitage. Link below!
