This week we bring to you our special Pride 2024 issue!

For our cover feature, we spoke to SoCal native Jess Losoya, who was involved in a street gang, addicted to drugs and in and out of prison when he had an epiphany: He needed to tell his “gang friends” that he is gay. Now a beacon for the LGBTQ+ community, he will be honored next week as the Tucson Pride Parade grand marshal.

In other Pride news, the 36th annual AIDSWALK Tucson is on the horizon! The family- and pet-friendly walking or running fundraiser aims to increase awareness and support for people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, with money raised going to the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, which provides targeted prevention outreach and education programs to over 17,000 people who are at high risk for infection.

Then, following AIDSWalk Tucson and the Tucson Pride Parade, the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation will display local panels and blocks from the NAMES Project during an AIDS Quilt Ceremony.

Finally, Lady Gaga tribute act Erika Moul will honor the “Mother Monster” with a little bit of herself when she performs at the Tucson Pride Festival at the end of the month.
