Remembering, Mr. Bill Cobbs. It was nice to meet and get to know Bill Cobbs. He was a great man and an incredible actor. He visited the African American Museum of Beginnings in Pomona many times and was close to Khalif and Vicky Rasshan. He also wrote and directed a stage play called the "Meeting," about the meeting between Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King. The play was staged in Rialto, CA. He will be missed, but he leaves a great legacy of excellence. Rest in Peace, Mr. Cobbs.

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus visited Centennial High School in Compton on Tuesday, June 24th. During the visit, students had the opportunity to learn about professional audio and video studio operations. They created, recorded, and mixed an original song using state-of-the-art technology and products from sponsors such as Dolby, Solid State Logic, Gibson Guitars, Roland drums and keyboards, and Audio-Technica microphones and headphones. It was an exciting day at Centennial High, my alma mater. Go, Apaches!

Mr. Bill Cobbs was an excellent actor who contributed significantly to the music industry and community. I was fortunate to have been in his company at the African American Museum of Beginnings several times and have had the opportunity to interview him and feature him in City Pride Magazine. He will be missed. View article

I got an opportunity today to meet with Dr. Yusef Salaam, best known as one of "The Central Park Five," the young boys who were railroaded into prison for r**e by the NYPD in 1989, and Donald Trump wanted to execute them. Now, they are called the "Exonerated Five" because after spending between seven and thirteen years behind bars, they were exonerated from the crime of r**e, Their convictions were vacated in 2002 after the actual ra**st confessed, but their lives were changed forever. Dr. Saleem was a 15-year-old teenager when he was sentenced to prison. The Netflix series "When They See Us," produced by Ava DuVernay, was about this part of his life and the other men's lives.

Dr. Yusef now advocates for equal justice and is a City Councilman for New York City's 9th District. He spoke at the National Innovative Communities Conference (NICC) at the Riverside Convention Center today, which was a great conference that continues on Tuesday, June 11th.

Congratulations to my niece, Khouri Williams, for graduating from Howard University with a Physics Degree. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and is a prime example of what kids from Compton can do. Her mother, Tracy Williams, and grandmother, my sister Laurenzia Waddles, are also congratulated for raising this outstanding young lady. Keep up the great work.
